Tom Curry: Fit-again England flanker ready for New Zealand Test in Autumn Nations Series

Sale flanker Tom Curry missed all of last season's Gallagher Premiership and the Six Nations series after major hip surgery left him with a battle back to full fitness. Speaking ahead of Saturday's Test with New Zealand – live on TNT Sports and discovery+ – Curry is determined to make the most of his return, and believes he is now in excellent physical condition.

England and Sale flanker Tom Curry is looking forward to the Test against the All Blacks this Saturday and believes his injury problems are behind him.

Curry missed all the 2023/24 season with a hip problem that required surgery, and he also was unable to take part in the Six Nations series.

The 26-year-old has started well for his club this season, and is set to take part in Saturday’s Autumn Nations Series opener, live on TNT Sports and discover+.

After getting through his surgery and recovery, he told TNT Sports that he was going to make the most of his time with the side.

He said: “I do think there’s a sense of enjoying where we are, enjoying the moment. It’s definitely a cliche, everyone says it, but these experiences don’t come around every day.

“The All Blacks, to be playing at the Allianz, I think is just really special. You don’t take it for granted.”

However, despite the severity of his hip injury, Curry insisted that he would not be playing any less aggressively, despite the worry of others.

“It’s not going to change how I see the game, how I play the game, and I don’t think my mum’s going to be too happy to hear that.

“At the start of all this, the calls with the surgeon and stuff, it was, ‘are we ever going to get back to Premiership rugby'? Then to blow that out of the water, to get into the Premiership, play three Tests, I feel like even from then, [I am thankful] to be in the position I am now.“

Curry thinks that he has now put in the hours to leave his fitness concerns in the past, adding: “Physically, I feel this season I’ve turned a corner, done a lot of work. I’m excited to really push on now.

“I was really fortunate to be surrounded by unbelievable people. My girlfriend, the physio at Sale, my family and my friends. Even when we spoke about tough stuff, it was about, ‘when are we going to get back’? I think it’s going to happen, and the ride’s going to be unbelievable.”
