Red Roses win the World Cup

Where else to begin than the Red Roses' stirring World Cup win? Canada were the opposition in the final at Allianz Stadium back in September, in front of a world-record crowd.

Though it was nip and tuck at times, John Mitchell's side always looked confident and comfortable under the expectation of home support, running out 33-13 winners.

Full-back Ellie Kildunne was already a star, but embellished her name even further with a wonderful tournament, including a dazzling try in the final.

With Zoe Harrison ever-reliable at fly-half, England got over the line with some ease and could toast not just one of the best rugby moments of the year, but in all of sport.

The Lions do it down under

History was made down under over the summer as the British & Irish Lions took a momentous victory over Australia.

The tour was a captivating affair, with Hugo Keenan's series-clinching try to seal the second Test coming in the very final moments in front of a packed MCG.

Maro Itoje, having only assumed the England captaincy in the early part of 2025, also skippered the men in red, and etched his name among the small number that can call themselves Lions-winning captains.

England beat The All Blacks

What a year it's been for Steve Borthwick's England.

After the pain of some close defeats in 2024 - and losing their Six Nations opener to Ireland - they still have not lost a game since then, a run of 11 Test wins.

That included a sensational victory over New Zealand during the Quilter Nations Series, where George Ford drove his team to redemption after the heartache of a two-point loss in 2024.

England wins over The All Blacks are so rare, and Allianz Stadium felt special on a day when it all clicked.

Perhaps that stemmed from the haka response that was the precursor to it all...

Bath end 29 years of hurt

South-west London was a sea of blue and white on a glorious June day as Bath washed away 29 years of domestic hurt to seal their first Gallagher PREM title since 1996.

After losing in the final last year, they went one better in 2025, with Johann van Graan's side - marshalled expertly by Finn Russell - proving themselves to be the finest in the land.

You wouldn't bet against them building on their modern-day legacy from here.

Gloucester-Hartpury land 'three-peat'

Gloucester-Hartpury were always going to be the team to beat in the PWR after back-to-back triumphs in 2022/23 and 2023/24.

And they rose to the expectations around them, beating Saracens 34-19 to walk off with a domestic 'three-peat' as head coach Sean Lynn ended his tenure in style.

It was the first time any side has won three PWR titles in a row and their dominance will require some side to stop them, especially given their form so far in the 2025/26 season.
