The 2023 Rugby World Cup comes down to its decisive moment after the conclusion of the semi-final stage. England and Argentina fell at the penultimate hurdle, and will face off in the bronze final.

New Zealand swept Argentina aside in the first semi-final. The underdogs led 3-0 after five minutes, when Emiliano Boffelli knocked over a penalty goal, but the All Blacks ground into gear and rolled forward to a 44-6 victory.

That booked them the first place in the final.

South Africa then secured the other berth with a 16-15 win over England, courtesy of a late Handre Pollard penalty. England had led by nine points with little more than 10 minutes to play, with all 15 of their points having come from the boot of captain Owen Farrell.

The two remaining matches of France 2023 will be played on:

South Africa head coach Jacques Nienaber has made two changes to his starting XV for the final. Pollard has been given the nod at 10 ahead of Manie Libbok, who has been dropped from the squad entirely, while Faf de Klerk starts at scrum-half.

South Africa XV: Willemse; Arendse, Kriel, De Allende, Kolbe; Pollard, De Klerk; Kitshoff, Mbonambi, Malherbe, Etzebeth, Mostert, Kolisi (c), Du Toit, Vermeulen.

Replacements: Fourie, Nche, Nyakane, Kleyn, Snyman, Smith, Wiese, Le Roux.

Ian Foster has made just one change to the All Blacks starting line-up for the showdown in Paris, with Brodie Retallick in for Sam Whitelock.

New Zealand XV: B Barrett; Jordan, Ioane, J Barrett, Tele'a; Mo'unga, Smith; De Groot, Taylor, Lomax, Retallick, S Barrett, Frizell, Cane (c), Savea.

Replacements: Taukei'aho, Williams, Laulala, Whitelock, Papali'i, Christie, McKenzie, Lienert-Brown.

In the third-place play-off, Steve Borthwick has made eight changes to his semi-final line-up, which includes a return for Marcus Smith at full-back and starts for Ben Youngs and Courtney Lawes, both of whom announced this will be their last game for England.

Argentina have made three changes to the starting XV that suffered a heavy defeat to the All Blacks.

The refereeing team will be confirmed during the week but the referee of England v South Africa (Ben O'Keeffe of New Zealand) will be ineligible. Australia's Angus Gardner, France's Mathieu Raynal, and English duo Karl Dickson and Wayne Barnes are among the contenders.
