A fantastic performance from Zhao Xintong saw him record three century breaks in whitewashing Ishpreet Singh Chadha at the English Open on Tuesday.

He got in immediately in frame one, with beautiful cue-ball control taking him to 105. Then, in the second, he capitalised when his opponent missed an easy brown, a run of 127 taking him halfway to victory.

Frame three was scrappier, but a terrific pot allowed Zhao to clear up, at which point his fourth-round spot looked inevitable.

Sure enough, the world champion pounced on another miss to finish the match with a run of 110.

Then it's blue to middle, he gets the cannon he's after ... but it doesn't knock the final red into a pottable position. So it's a safety to end a very nice break, the frame still in the balance.

For once, Zhao loses control of the white, so must play his first recovery-pot of the evening going long to the green bag ... but the ball won't drop. So Ishpreet gets away with a decent one to corner and, having presumably expected to go 3-0 down, he now has a chance to close to within one.

But Robertson was superb thereafter, consecutive centuries – the second a total clearance - putting him in front. Judd Trump found some sparkling form with a new cue to reach the last 32 of the English Open with a 4-0 whitewash of former Shoot Out winner Michael Holt in Brentwood.

Holt had chances to win the first and the third frames of the third-round meeting, but was heavily punished with the world No. 1 Trump producing breaks of 55, 107 and 130 to secure a meeting with Yuan Sijun on Wednesday after Yuan edged out Ben Woollaston 4-3.

Trump told TNT Sports he was happy with his performance armed with a new cue for the first time since 2018.

"I fancied a change. I needed some more power. I've had this cue a couple of weeks. I'll try it to see what happens," he said.

"Some of the conditions over the past few years, it is becoming harder and harder to screw the ball back.

"I'm not one to mess about with cues, but you need a refresh every now and then.

"It is up to me to get used to it."

Mark Allen also impressed in a 4-1 victory over Scott Donaldson that saw the former UK and Masters champion weigh in with 78, 67 and 54.

Allen next faces Stuart Bingham or Dylan Emery for a last-16 spot.

Meanwhile, recent Wuhan Open finalist Gary Wilson completed a 4-2 win over Sanderson Lam while Ricky Walden enjoyed a 4-1 win over Joe O'Connor.
