The quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championship are up and running. Luca Brecel, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Si Jiahui, Judd Trump, Chris Wakelin and Zhao Xintong are all involved, but one of the most amusing moments of the tournament came in the match between Mark Williams and John Higgins. After completing a visit to the table, Williams stumbled over a step, much to the joy of the commentators.

Mark Williams nearly went flying after tripping over a step during his World Snooker Championship quarter-final match against John Higgins.

The world No. 6 immediately saw the funny side of the situation, letting out a wry smile, as the TNT Sports commentary team laughed along.

The trip came at the worst possible moment for Williams, who was trailing the game by two frames to one and losing the fourth 59-49 time.

The Welshman ended the session trailing five frames to three, but momentum appeared to be with him after battling back from 5-1 down.

The funny flashpoint gave David Hendon plenty to talk about, live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

"Woah, steady! That little step nearly caught him out there," said the TNT Sports commentator.

"We don't want any accidents here, Mark. He nearly went flying there.

"Just coming back to his seat, I don't know if there always was a step there, was there?"

Williams reached this stage of the 2025 World Snooker Championship with a 10-8 victory against Wu Yize in the opening round and a 13-10 triumph over Hossein Vafaei in round two.

Higgins reached the quarter-finals with a 10-7 victory against Joe O'Connor and then an impressive win against Xiao Guodong in a closely-fought contest.

Luca Brecel is set to face Judd Trump and Ronnie O'Sullivan will play Si Jiahui in this afternoon's quarter-finals.
