Wu could well have played his last shot...
He misses a red to the left centre, similar to the one he knocked in at the start of his World Championship-winning break against Shaun Murphy.
Trump just needs a few more pots to get over the line, though the balls aren't placed the easiest for him.

Trump 9-6 Wu (49-0)

Trump has the chance to secure frame and match, but can't quite convert.
Wu still has hope, but any mistake from here could be his last...

He misses frame-ball red to the right centre, but the five remaining aren't positioned particularly favourably for Wu to counter.

A break of 82 is more than enough to halve his deficit.

Trump 0-2 Wu (49-16)

The world number one needs a second bite at the cherry.
This time, though, the balls are nicely positioned for him to potentially get his first frame on the board.

Trump 0-1 Wu (21-68)

Trump 0-1 Wu (5-45)

Following a scrappy start to the second frame, Wu forces an opportunity after trapping Trump in a snooker.
He looks set to double his lead...

Memorable meeting

Perhaps the most memorable previous showdown between the players came at the 2024 Saudi Arabia Masters.
Trump appeared set to fall at the first hurdle when he trailed 4-0 in their round-of-32 clash.
However, the Ace reeled off the next five frames to complete a superb turnaround.
It proved crucial as he subsequently went on to win the tournament in dramatic fashion, prevailing on the final black to scoop the bumper top prize of £500,000.

Trump 0-1 Wu

The world champion takes full advantage with a break of 61 to draw first blood.

Trump 0-0 Wu (38-12)

The world number one is going along nicely, but runs out of reds.
He misses an ambitious plant to the left corner, and Wu had a chance to counter.

D'oh!

Trump breaks and goes in-off in the yellow pocket, presenting the first chance to Wu.
The world champ knocks in a brilliant long red, but he then misses a delicate second to the left corner when playing left-handed.

Let's get the boys on the baize

The players are introduced into the arena, and we're ready to get under way in Shanghai!

Head to head

Trump won each of the first three meetings between the players, though Wu has prevailed in the last two.
Their most recent came in the round of 16 at last season's International Championship, when the Chinese reeled off six straight frames from 4-0 down to advance a 6-4 winner.
He subsequently went on to lift the title, beating John Higgins for his big career breakthrough.

How did they get here?

World No. 1 Trump is just two wins away from claiming his second Shanghai Masters title.
The 2024 champion, who beat Barry Hawkins 6-4 in round two, was in inspired form on Thursday, hitting three straight centuries on the way to completing a 6-0 rout of John Higgins.
Meanwhile, after opening with a 6-2 win over Si Jiahui, it looked like world champion Wu would bow out in the quarter-finals against Shaun Murphy.
The Magician was out to avenge his Crucible heartbreak from when the players met in the showpiece, but an untimely miss in the decider allowed the Chinese to clear with 42 and snatch a dramatic victory on the final black!

World No. 1 versus world champion

It doesn't get much bigger than this for a place in the final!
We're set for an epic showdown over the best of 19 frames.
