Si Jiahui hits 'magical' 147 maximum at Championship League snooker before Zhao Xintong bids to topple Judd Trump in world No. 1 battle

Si Jiahui celebrated the second 147 of his fledgling career and the second maximum of the season at the Championship League on Tuesday, but it was not enough to prevent the world No. 16 from tumbling out of the ranking event at the first group stage at Leicester's Mattioli Arena.

The former Crucible semi-finalist sealed the perfect break with a brilliant pot on a red to right middle to hold for the black with only four reds left on the table.
He then dropped in a testing long final red before slotting black and the colours to bring up a huge smile in the first frame of a 3-0 win over compatriot Xu YIchen.
It is the 243rd maximum of the modern era and the second of the new season after Michael Holt rolled in a maximum during a 6-1 win over Mark Joyce in China Open qualifying.
Si, who first turned professional in 2019, produced his maiden 147 against Trump at the Wuhan Open two years ago.
"Simply outstanding," said Phil Yates on commentary. "Exceptional, in fact. Talk about making a perfect break look so, so easy? A number of shots in that break were simply magical."
But it was not enough to top Group 6 with evergreen Marco Fu securing a spot in the last 32 of the quickfire competition on frame difference after drawing 2-2 with Si in the section decider.
A 3-0 win over Xu and a 3-1 success against Sean Maddocks saw Fu progress to the next phase which sees the former Grand Prix winner join Chang Bingyu, Mark Joyce and Jak Jones in Group F.
Fellow Hong Kong hopeful Cheung Ka Wai was the dominant figure in topping Group 26 on nine points courtesy of wins over Ashley Carty (3-1), George Pragnell (3-0) and Matthew Stevens (3-0).

Meanwhile, top seed Zhao Xintong will aim to cut the gap on world No. 1 Judd Trump when he begins his campaign on Thursday, the final day of the first round.
Zhao is in Group 1 alongside David Grace, Simon Blackwell and Gao Yang as he bids to become only the 13th player of the modern era to become world No. 1.
The 2025 world champion is 479,000 points behind Trump, but the Bristolian will lose 500,000 points from his total after next month's Wuhan Open (Aug 23-29) meaning Zhao could reach the summit for the first time next month.

A strong performance in the Championship League, China Open (which is live on TNT Sports and HBO Max in early August) and Wuhan would boost his prospects, with Neil Robertson, world champion Wu Yize and John Higgins also in the frame for top spot.
Trump has been world No. 1 since August 2024.
