1992 UK Championship winner Jimmy White will not have a chance to regain that title this year after losing in the first round of qualifying for the York Barbican tournament on Saturday evening. His opponent was 14-year-old Polish up-and-comer Michal Szubarczyk, who won the match 6-2. Elsewhere, Reanne Evans defeated Peter Lines 6-4, and will hope to progress through all four rounds of qualifying.

Michal Szubarczyk knocked Jimmy White out of the UK Championship qualifying rounds on Saturday evening.
White is the 1992 champion and continues to take part in qualifying for many major tournaments after being extended an invitational card for 2025, though he finds most of his success these days on the senior circuit, and is a four-time World Senior Champion, having last lifted the trophy in 2023.
His opponent was a player at the opposite stage of his career, with Szubarczyk, a 14-year-old player who won the IBSF World Snooker Championship and also a two-year card on the World Snooker Tour, starting in the current season.
Szubarczyk’s best finish so far this season is a third-round exit at the Saudi Arabia Masters, and a win over White could give him the chance to go even further on a still bigger stage.
The teenage Pole won the first frame, before White's second-frame 92 levelled things.
Three half-century breaks then helped Szubarczyk to four consecutive frames. White then hit 57 to pull one back, but his opponent claimed his sixth and winning frame.
He faces Jordan Brown on Monday in the second round of qualifying.
Elsewhere, Reanne Evans won her match-up against Peter Lines.
She scored the only half-century break of the match to level the scores at 1-1, before battling her way to a 6-4 win.

There are four rounds of qualifying matches, with the last round taking place on Wednesday 26 November and Thursday 27 November.
The first round of the tournament proper begins on Saturday 29 November. Players such as world No. 1 Judd Trump will be at the tournament, as will Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Selby, Kyren Wilson, Mark Williams, Shaun Murphy, Neil Robertson, Ding Junhui, Mark Allen and Zhao Xintong.
