John Higgins has spoken of his delight at being drawn to face Ronnie O’Sullivan in this season’s Masters.
Higgins and O’Sullivan remain two of the biggest draw cards in the sport, despite turning professional in 1992.
The pair have had an intense and respectful rivalry over the past 32 years on the professional circuit, with some stellar clashes at the highest level.
With both in their late 40s, meetings between them are savoured more than ever and eyes were drawn to The Masters when they were pulled out to meet in the first round at the Alexandra Palace.
Higgins and O’Sullivan have not faced each other at The Masters since 2021, and the Scot feels it will be a tremendous occasion when they lock horns in January.
"I was in the house with the family over and I said I fancy getting Ronnie, and I did," Higgins told Eurosport.

"I have not played Ronnie in a while in London, and obviously it should be a good occasion.
"It is one to be in the memory bank to look forward to."

Prior to The Masters, Higgins’ attention will be on winning his home Scottish Open.
Higgins won what was previously titled the International Open twice in the 1990s, but has not tasted glory since it was changed to the Scottish Open in 1998.
