Hong Kong will host a snooker ranking event for the first time in 36 years as the World Grand Prix takes place at the Kai Tak Arena. Ronnie O'Sullivan looks set to defend his crown after a stop-start season so far, but 31 of the world's best players will also be hoping to get their hands on the top prize.

The latest snooker ranking event of 2025 takes place in Hong Kong with the game’s top stars descending on the Kai Tak Arena for the World Grand Prix.

After Ronnie O’Sullivan triumphed in last year’s final against Judd Trump, this year will see the current top 32 players in the world battle it out over the course of a week to determine a new champion.

Since its first outing in 2015, this year’s tournament will be the first to take place outside of the UK, and the first ranking event in Hong Kong since 1989.

Who is playing at the World Grand Prix?

The 2025 World Grand Prix will feature the top 32 players in the world from the one‑year ranking list following the conclusion of the 2025 Welsh Open.

The seedings for the tournament are based on their ranking positions.

Ronnie O’Sullivan originally confirmed he was going to defend his title in Hong Kong, having not featured in a ranking event since the UK Championship in November.

But then came the news of his withdrawal due to medical reasons - leaving all eyes on the likes of Judd Trump and Kyren Wilson in Hong Kong.

O'Sullivan has been replaced in the draw by Hossein Vafaei.

What is the World Grand Prix schedule?

First-round action will begin on Tuesday, March 4 and will be played across two days.

The following rounds will take place on the subsequent days with the final on Sunday, March 9.

The first round and last 16 matches will be best of 7 frames while the quarters will be best of 9.

For the semi-finals, matches will be best of 11 frames with the final best of 19.
