Trump eventually finds form to reach last 16

Judd Trump overcame Jackson Page, while Mark Williams crashed out to Hossein Vafei in Wednesday's late session of the World Open.
Trump was very patchy early on and could have been 3-0 down, but a fluke in the opener helped get him on the board and then centuries either side of the interval gave him control of the match.
He continued to get the run of the balls in the next two frames, getting over the line with something to spare in the end.
Mark Williams was in total control at two-up against Hossein Vafaei but ended up losing the next five frames, with the Iranian star making a 127 break and three half-centuries on his way to victory.
Ronnie O'Sullivan showed some of his best, wowing the crowd with a 138 total clearance as he beat Mathhew Selt 5-0, setting up a mouth-watering last-16 clash against Shaun Murphy.

Trump beats Page 5-2

A fine clearance down to the pink from Trump seals the match in good fashion, after he had looked so poor early in the match.

Trump 4-2 Page (71*-0)

Trump was lucky not to leave an easy pot, for the second time in the frame, and Page may rue the snooker gods as Trump is now sure of winning the sixth match out of six between the two.

Trump 4-2 Page (56-0)

Trump misses a red along the bottom cushion, as he looked to force it in to gain position.

Trump 4-2 Page (49*-0)

Trump has polished off the easy reds and will need good positioning to notch at least two others to take the frame.

Trump 4-2 Page (11*-0)

Trump missed a blue off the spot while splitting the reds all asunder. Page had a tricky pot which he missed and now Trump is back at the table with an inviting table.

Trump 4-2 Page (5*-0)

Trump potted the first red but could not get position, second time around he is on the yellow though and, after a plant of two reds, he has a chance to build a break.

Trump 4-2 Page

It could easily have been another century, but he missed a ball with the frame one and the break on 55. He is one frame away from victory now.

Trump 3-2 Page (30*-1)

Page pots the red over the pocket but misses the colour and now Trump has another chance to win the frame.

Trump 3-2 Page (22-1*)

It looked ominous for Page as Trump was first on the table and raced to a lead, but then left a red over the pocket.

Trump 3-2 Page

Back-to-back centuries from Trump, this one 101, and he now has the lead.

Trump 2-2 Page (68*-6)

The frame is now Trump's and, after an incredible double going into the side cushion before hitting the last red, he could get another century.

Trump 2-2 Page (17*-6)

Another big fluke from Trump - and again the ball ends in his lucky right middle. This time, after breaking up the reds, a red stopped the pink going into the bottom left, so he went for a risky long yellow which he missed - at least into the pocket he was aiming.

Trump 2-2 Page (1*-6)

Page first on the board, but he misses a straightforward black off the spot, gifting Trump an easy start, albeit with the black on the cushion.

'Terrific' break sees Trump notch 50th century of the season

Trump 1-2 Page (108*-16)

Trump has his 50th century of the season. It is the 11th occasion he has recorded 50 centuries in the snooker calendar year.

Trump 1-2 Page (78*-16)

A good clean pot of a red just off the bottom cushion has ensured Trump will win the fourth frame. Can he make a century now?

Trump 1-2 Page (61*-16)

Not quite at his fluent best, but Trump at least has his first half-century of the match and looks like going into the interval level. And he would take that given how badly he has played.

Trump 1-2 Page (9*-16)

Page tried to play a tricky positional shot but missed a cannon on the reds and then just failed to sink a mid-range red. Trump now with another chance.

Trump 1-2 Page (8-1*)

It is almost one good shot, one bad for Trump. He left himself a blind cut into the bottom-left pocket but it was not a shot he would usually have trouble with at all.

Trump 1-2 Page (1*-0)

Page just fails to cut a red into the blind bottom-right pocket, leaving it in the jaws. Trump pots it dead weight and cannons into the black to leave himself on the black.

Vafaei 1-2 Mark Williams

Williams won the first two frames but a half-century from Vafaei saw him halve the deficit.

Trump 1-2 Page

A break of 61 is more than enough to give the frame to Page. He has made two fifty breaks thus far, Trump has made none.

Trump 1-1 Page (12-70*)

You wouldn't say he has doen it with a smile on his face, but Page has carefully compiled a big score, clearing up the easy reds around the black spot and Trump now needs snookers.

Trump 1-1 Page (12-32*)

Page is left a long red, and he slots it, leaving himself perfectly on the black into the right middle. The table looks a good one to clear up now.

Trump 1-1 Page (12-24)

Trump is so off his game. He tries to clip the edge of a red but ends up missing it and hitting the black.

Trump 1-1 Page (8-16)

Page pots a couple of reds and colours but nothing is happening easily in this match, and he has to play to baulk.

Trump 1-1 Page (8-1*)

Trump is first at the table, but he leaves the blue on the cusp of the green pocket. Now Page has the chance to make him pay.

Trump 1-1 Page

He rolls the pink into the bottom-left pocket to end a strange couple of frames.

Trump 0-1 Page (47-43)

Trump misses a long straight blue by a mile...and it then goes around the table into the right middle!

Trump 0-1 Page (47-43)

Page just misses a long attempt into the bottom-left corner and is lucky not to leave it on.

Trump 0-1 Page (47-43)

Trump pots yellow, green and brown and then leaves Page in a snooker. Page gets out of it and is fortunate not to leave the blue on.

Trump 0-1 Page (38-43)

The last red was stuck on the bottom cushion, so Page had to play safe. He goes onto pot the last red and left himself on the yellow, but instead plays a difficult brown into the left middle and misses.

Trump 0-1 Page (38-30*)

Again, Page can't get position off a a colour and plays safe, but Trump leaves him another easy pot.

Trump 0-1 Page (38-23*)

Page pots a red and colour but then misses a long red. But Trump then misses a fairly easy cut, albeit into a blind green pocket. Now Page has a third chance.

Trump 0-1 Page (37-16)

Page couldn't quite take advantage of the opportunity but left the cue ball tight on the baulk cushion.

Trump 0-1 Page (37-1*)

Trump opens the red fully with finesse maneuvering the reds into very pottable positions, but then he misses the black! Now Page can take advantage of his good work.

Trump 0-1 Page (6*-0)

Page misses a long pot and lets Trump in first in the second frame.

Trump 0-1 Page

Page rolls in the pink and takes a sigh of relief having secured the opener he would have been sickened to lose.

Trump 0-0 Page (62-71)

That was unexpected. He was a little constricted by the side cushion, but Trump only had to roll the pink in to set himself up for the black. Instead, he hit both jaws.

Trump 0-0 Page (53*-71)

Page leaves Trump with the chance to lay an easy snooker and, when fouling, Page left the yellow on so Trumpo could well clean up now.

Trump 0-0 Page (44-71)

What a mistake to make! Page was put in a snooker by Trump and hit the black ball trying to get out of it. Now Trump can force a re-spotted black if he clears up.

Trump 0-0 Page (37-71)

A very accomplished break from Page, but he misses a long yellow with the rest, so Trump will play on needing two snookers.

Trump 0-0 Page (37-13*)

Trump tried to get out of a snooker with a double but missed the red and has now let in Page with a chance.

Trump 0-0 Page (37-1)

Trump gobbled up the loose reds then, slightly out of position, went into the pack off two cushions and didn't get the result he wanted. He did plays an interesting safety, doubling a red near the middle pocket but snookering it with the pack.

Trump 0-0 Page (5*-1)

Page on the board first, but he can't get on a colour so plays to baulk - but not safe enough and Trump plays a typical dead-weight long pot to get back for the brown.
