The Xi'an Grand Prix sees some of snooker's top players bidding for glory in the sixth ranking event of the season. World No. 1 Judd Trump, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Neil Robertson and world champion Zhao Xintong are among the players in the draw, with Kyren Wilson the defending champion. Ronnie O'Sullivan set up a last-32 clash with Stephen Maguire at the Xi'an Grand Prix after easing past tour newcomer Yao Pengcheng 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
Yao picked up the third frame with a run of 55, but O'Sullivan, who whitewashed Iulian Boiko 5-0 on Tuesday, was largely untroubled by the world No. 118 as knocks of 63, 128, 53 and 54 helped the seven-time Crucible winner advance after leading 3-1 at the mid-session interval.
He will take on former UK champion Maguire for a last-16 spot at 12:30pm on Thursday afternoon, live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
But world No. 1 Judd Trump is out after Matthew Stevens produced a stunning comeback to secure a shock 5-4 victory earlier in the day.
Trump took two extremely scrappy frames to open as both players struggled with the humid conditions.
Stevens finally found some rhythm with a 63 clearance up to the black to reduce the arrears, but 2019 world champion, Trump re-established his two-frame advantage heading into the interval with a break of 84.
Stevens returned with some huge fortune as back-to-back flukes on red and brown helped him to bag his second frame of the contest and he suddenly oozed with confidence as a break of 90 dragged him level.
Former Masters and UK winner Stevens made it three frames in a row when he came out on top in a crucial face-off on the blue before squandering chances to get over the line as Trump somehow clawed back snookers to force a decider off a re-spotted black.
The world No. 51 could be forgiven for losing his focus after such drama, but he came out with renewed determination to put together a trio of low-scoring runs to secure one of his best wins of recent times.

Blue will stop Yao coming back and pink is icing on the cake. A 5-1 win for O'Sullivan, who will face Stephen Maguire in the last 32 on Thursday.

Another terrific long red by Yao. Throwing caution to the wind, but no position on the black. Another long red is drilled home seconds later.

Powers in a stunning pot on a green and red to continue this break. Amazing pots. 46 the break from Ronnie to conclude. One away from a meeting with Stephen Maguire in the last 32 on Thursday.

Well, Yao fails to get white safe despite hitting a red at top end of table and that should be the tin lid on another frame for Ronnie. All going his way. Heading for a 4-1 lead.

Ronnie first to the punch in the third frame of the day, but he loses the white for once. So just the safety to follow off a red. Fine pot on a long red then enables him to nudge up behind the green.

What a shot from blue to pink by O'Sullivan. Pink just pokes out its head to left middle after white came off two cushions. 128 of the very best from the snooker GOAT. Total clearance and total class.
O'SULLIVAN 1-0 YAO (98-8)
Out comes the extension on his new cue on 98. And out comes the extended rest. In goes the red, and suddenly this is 2-0 to the world No. 4. Warming up nicely.

Well, what can you say about this? Just too good when he gets on a roll. Yao not doing much wrong to fall 2-0 down here.

This really is rapid stuff from Ronnie. Break moves quickly to 55 and not far off moving two ahead in the race to five. And it feels like a race at the moment with O'Sullivan moving through the gears here.

RESULT! - TRUMP 4-5 STEVENS
Trump fouls trying to play safe with his cueball tight to baulk.
The world number one gets it right off the two-cushion escape on the second attempt but leaves a red up to middle left that Stevens carefully glides home.
A pink up to middle right extends the Welshman’s lead on the board and he pings into the pack off a red to the left.
The cue ball carries on up to baulk but holds up enough for him to send the brown to the green pocket.
The world number 51 has the match in his hands once again as a blue, a red and pink to the right corner put him well clear.
A run of 39 seems to end with a miss on a black, but it rolls across to the right corner and lands in. It's academic as Trump has already risen to shake hands.
TRUMP 4-4 STEVENS (0-25)
Steven takes on a shot for nothing with a long red to the right corner and then arrows a tricky green down to middle left.
Position isn’t great and he’s forced to work so hard, cueing from within the jaw of the right corner to tease a tough red to middle left.
He eyes the brown to the yellow pocket for an angle to come back down the table and shake the pack.
Somehow he finds the smallest of gaps to fail in that attempt and he has to play safe to baulk off a run of nine.
TRUMP 4-4 STEVENS (0-16)
There’s a real stalemate to suggest a potential re-rack may be required.
Stevens doesn’t want that and eventually plays a risky double on a red off the left rail to try and clip another one near to the right corner.
It’s a near miss and his bravery is rewarded as he doesn’t leave anything on for Judd and means thoughts of a re-rack evaporate.
TRUMP 4-4 STEVENS (0-16)
Stevens must have been shaken by the way that last frame was snatched away from him, but he recovers here to open with a solitary red.
The Welshman is back in again with a sharp red to middle right that he follows with a green, red and blue to middle once again.
Getting a groove is probably the best way for him to brush aside what happened, but it goes wrong on a run of 15 when he ends up tight to the right side of the pack.
TRUMP 4-4 STEVENS
Al square and we are going the distance!
Trump somehow survives, chasing down the snookers and then cutting in the re-spotted black to middle right.
TRUMP 3-4 STEVENS (68-68)
Trump gets the thinnest of cuts on a pink to middle right and then levels with a black to the left corner.
All square and it’s down to a re-spot on the black!
TRUMP 3-4 STEVENS (55-68)
Trump plays another sublime trap, weighting the lay of the cueball perfectly to sit to the side of the black.
The Welshman can’t find the pink up in baulk and the foul means he is 13 behind with 13 points available.
TRUMP 3-4 STEVENS (49-68)
Frame on?
Trump sends the brown down and lays a trap behind the pink on the left rail with the blue to the right of the black on the bottom deck.
It’s a super snooker and Matthew knows he can’t afford to clip the black here…
And he doesn’t.
The line of the escape up off baulk and the upper right rail is good, but he lacks pace.
It hands the initiative to Judd who slams down the blue but is still 19 behind with just the pink and black left.
TRUMP 3-4 STEVENS (35-68)
Judd knocks in the green and is running out of balls to lay some traps.
Stevens comes so close to a long brown to the green pocket but it jostles with the jaws and stays out.
TRUMP 3-4 STEVENS (32-68)
Judd is forced to nudge down the yellow left hovering over the green pocket by Stevens.
The world number one is still searching for snookers and it’s on to the green now.
Just one more pot would do it for Matthew...
He's tantalisingly close here!
TRUMP 3-4 STEVENS (30-68)
Judd starts to eat into the deficit, playing off the blue and firing the penultimate red to middle right.
Trump moves the final red off the left cushion via a pot on the pink to the corner but misses a cut to the middle to end on 30.
Stevens knocks it in and knows he’s pretty much there.
The Welshman moves closer to the finish line with a long pink to the yellow pocket, but can’t do anything on the yellow.
Trump returns needing three snookers.
TRUMP 3-4 STEVENS (1-61)
Trump knocks in an excellent long red to open but again gets his angles wrong on a cut on the black.
Stevens steps in and wallops down the black left hovering over the left corner rim to leap back into the pack at force. It’s a lovely split and the Welshman digs in with a heavy helping of red-black combos.
He stays on course with excellent control of a pot on a red to the right corner via the rest and gets a lovely bounce on the bottom deck to keep the run going with a black to the right.
The Welshman is a tad indecisive deciding between a pink to enhance the split of the pack or the blue and he ends up wrong side of the latter after finally taking the shot.
He needs a fantastic recovery pot on a difficult-to-cue red down the right rail. The black to the corner sees him engineer a delicious gap to a red between pink and a row of four.
It’s match-ball on the black to the left – but he misses!
A run of 60 puts him firmly in charge, but it should be over now…
TRUMP 3-4 STEVENS
Stevens finally gets the half chance on a long blue to the left corner and he pops it down before following with an even better one on the pink.
From 3-1 down to 4-3 up – Stevens is one frame away from victory!
TRUMP 3-3 STEVENS (51-62)
With Trump needing the remaining three colours and Stevens requiring just the blue, a key face-off on the latter colour ensues.
Judd stays calm and sensible but is eventually lured into taking on a long blue down the right rail that just fails to land.
He’s fortunate that he doesn’t leave it open for Stevens and on we go!
TRUMP 3-3 STEVENS (51-62)
Those three misses to avoid leaving the final red on prove key as Stevens gets the chance off the mini safety face-off and drills a beauty of a pot to the right corner.
A blue and yellow to the middle bring him up to baulk where the green and brown aren’t on their spots.
He fires down the green to its home and then flukes the brown to middle right after turning down the pot to the yellow bag in search of a safety!
He can’t do anything with the blue on its spot with the cue ball tight to baulk and yet another scrappy frame goes on.
TRUMP 3-3 STEVENS (51-47)
The escape off two cushions proves to be very tough for Matthew as he fouls on three occasions.
He gets it right at the fourth time of asking to ensure Judd can’t dig out a pot, but he has relinquished the lead on the board as a result of the trio of failures.
TRUMP 3-3 STEVENS (39-47)
Stevens rolls a red to middle right and is perfect on the black off its spot to the corner.
The Welsh Dragon plays for a double to left middle, but can’t bypass the near jaw and this frame remains in the balance.
Judd rifles the penultimate red up to the yellow bag but can only slip in-behind the blue with no chance of developing the break further.
TRUMP 3-3 STEVENS (38-39)
Stevens fouls on the pink playing an escape that looked make-able and it leaves a chance for Judd.
The world number one slides a red up to middle right but then fluffs the yellow!
TRUMP 3-3 STEVENS (31-39)
Stevens guides a beauty of a long red to the green pocket and wallops in the yellow to its home.
A red to middle right is followed by a blue to the opposite flank and he preys upon that colour around the stray reds as he navigates his way down towards what remains on the pack.
In-keeping with much of this contest, the Welshman loses position somewhat sloppily and when he downs the black, he loses control of the cue ball and has to take on a double that never looked likely.
TRUMP 3-3 STEVENS (31-16)
Trump can’t ignite here. Again he runs out of traction on a run of 26 and after a face-off nudging into the pack, the world number one leaves a long red on for Stevens…

Stevens seems distracted by the cheers from the other table as Ding closes-in on victory.
It sees him miss a routine red off 16 and leaves the door ajar for Judd.

A foul and a miss from Matthew gives Judd the momentum, but he fluffs a cut on the black to the right corner after nailing a red down to the same bag to open.

Trump can’t take advantage of the reprieve and gift wraps an opening for Matthew to pull level.
The Welshman sinks a pink to the left corner to move out of sight and rolls two tricky reds along the bottom rail to pave a path to a 90 clearance, opting to leave the black at the death.
TRUMP 3-2 STEVENS (0-41)
Trump misses a tricky red up to middle right and it opens the door for Stevens.
The Welsh Dragon had looked a touch forlorn and frustrated with his game in the opening frames here, but he’s got something going now and a smooth rhythm moves him towards the half-century mark.
However, he comes up shy on 41 as he doesn’t get the right pace off a pot on the green and can’t pull off a tough cut via the rest on a red to the corner.
TRUMP 3-2 STEVENS
The face-off on brown eventually comes to a close when Trump goes in-off and concedes the frame.
TRUMP 3-1 STEVENS (37-60)
Stevens shakes his head as he leaves a yellow near the right corner.
It’s far from home and Judd needs to avoid the middle left pocket when he takes on the diagonal pot.
He does go in-off and Matthew is able to steer in the re-spotted yellow and then the green, but he misses on the brown.
Trump returns to the table in search of a snooker.
TRUMP 3-1 STEVENS (37-51)
Trump plays a tidy snooker in-behind the brown.
Stevens looks to be in trouble but gets a fluke red of his own when he has a jab and one somehow lands in the right corner.
He takes on a brown across baulk but misses it to the left – and then gets even more fortune when it rolls back along the rail and into the green pocket!
Surely he has to win this frame from here following two huge slices of luck?
Well, he makes solid in-roads off the stray reds but it’s all about the final two near to the right rail.
He dithers over taking on the first but does execute it perfectly to land on the pink up to the right middle to land above the final red tight to the rail.
The Welshman steers it down but misses the black to give Judd a chance to steal following the run of 46.
TRUMP 3-1 STEVENS (37-5)
Stevens clips a superb long red to the left corner, but he can’t help but offer a grin when it all goes wrong with the cue ball off a measly run of five.
It’s been that sort of match and indeed, season, for the Welshman.
TRUMP 3-1 STEVENS (37-0)
Trump takes on a risky plant from baulk to the left corner, makes a mess of it but then gets a huge slice of fortune when another red makes a beeline for the opposite bag!
The world number one fires down a pink to follow but this time a ricochet goes against him and he has to come up with a defensive shot as his short stint at the table ends on seven.
TRUMP 3-1 STEVENS (30-0)
Judd is first to ignite following the interval, rolling a red up to middle and following it with a blue.
A red with the rest is despatched to the left corner and it tees him up nicely to prey upon a couple of red-black combos before an attempt to screw back into the pack off the colour goes awry and he has to play safe off a run of 30.

TRUMP 3-1 STEVENS
Once again Trump is first to score at the table with a trademark long red, but this time there’s no lapse as he plays a brilliant cannon off a topside pot on blue to middle right to split the pack nicely.
He navigates a cluster of reds with a well-paced pot that leaves him perfectly on the pink to the left corner.
The world number one makes short work of a succession of reds around the black and the colour to the right flank snares his first half century of the match.
Blue-red-blue puts him out of sight but the century remains elusive as he can’t find position off the final two reds tight to the bottom rail.
It matters little in the context of the match as he restores his two-frame advantage heading into the interval via a break of 84.
TRUMP 2-1 STEVENS
Stevens gets back in with a lovely red down the left rail and a black to the right corner helps him build up a head of steam and move out of sight.
A pink to the right lines up the final red to the left.
He plays off the blue to land easily on the yellow and with the colours all on their spots, he clears to the black with a break of 63.

*Ding was on the hunt for a 147 but came up short on a break of 120 as a tough yellow with pace along the baulk cushion refused to go down.
TRUMP 2-0 STEVENS (14-44)
Stevens takes advantage of the miss with a mid-range red to the right corner and rolls a lovely black up to middle left.
A red to the left is followed by a blue to middle as he comes off three cushions to nick in a red to middle left on the stretch.
The world number 51 sinks a red to the left corner but then looks dejected by his lack of pace that means he needs a belting cut on a black to the right to keep the run going.
He lands topside of a red north-east of the pack that he’s able to jab down with the rest and it leaves him nicely on a pink to middle left.
Eventually, the Welshman runs out of options but a break of 44 should do his flagging confidence a real boost.
TRUMP 2-0 STEVENS (14-0)
Ouch.
Trump is first to show once again but a routine black off its spot refuses the invitation of the right-corner bag.

TRUMP 2-0 STEVENS
Stevens can’t wriggle a red down the left rail to the corner and this time Trump does make it count.
A red to the right and a pink down to the opposite corner put him out of sight.
A run of 41 is enough but it’s far from vintage from both players with Trump just about handling these conditions the best so far.
TRUMP 1-0 STEVENS (32-0)
Judd plays a beauty of a safety and it earns him a half chance with a long red up to the yellow bag.
He duly rolls down a delicious pot to get his second bite at developing a healthy advantage.
It all goes pear-shaped again a moment later as he is a touch casual with the rest and fails to land a routine red to the left corner.
It leaves Alan McManus on TNT Sports comms aghast. ‘What a miss!’ he exclaims succinctly.
TRUMP 1-0 STEVENS (22-0)
Judd spies a long red from north of the pack and arrows it down to the right corner.
A yellow across to its home pocket moves him back down from baulk and from the mid-table he drills a red from left to the right corner.
The black is out of commission tight to the bottom deck with reds either side of it, so Judd makes intelligent use of the pink and the blue, but he needs a recovery pot off the latter to come down off the baulk cushion for a line of reds to the left.
It doesn’t pay off, so he takes on a double on a red to left middle that misses by a fair way.

TRUMP 1-0 STEVENS
Trump gets back in again as Stevens leaves the cue ball in the lower section of the table.
A red and brown tee up an opportunity for him to gobble up a run of red-black combos.
A cut off the black sees him come off three cushions to land on a red to middle right and that’s pretty much frame ball.
The world number one can’t pull off the double to land the penultimate red to left middle, but a run of 42 is enough to finally end that patchy opener.
TRUMP 0-0 STEVENS (45-8)
Stevens takes on a long red down the right rail.
He can’t quite squeeze it down but when the cueball cannons into the black it leaves an easy red to middle for Trump.
The world number one knocks in the black to right middle and gets it back on its spot.
It’s there to be won from here but Judd drops his head in dismay as he fails to land on a colour off a red.
It’s not an orthodox table and the scattering of reds has caused him a headache or two so far, blocking off the simple pathways to the colours.
TRUMP 0-0 STEVENS (36-8)
Judd clips in a solitary red and immediately loses position again. He grimaces, tilts his head and tries to play safe, but it leaves an opening for Stevens.
The Welshman finally has his first pot and then slides in a yellow from right to left in baulk.
He adds another red but then misses a brown off its spot to the yellow bag by some distance.
To suggest this frame has been scrappy so far is being polite and things can only get better for both players from here.

TRUMP 0-0 STEVENS (35-4)
We finally have a pot!
It took quarter of an hour, but we are up and running as Trump drills down a red to the right corner.
A blue to middle left follows and he begins to prey upon the plethora of stray reds that have scattered to the far right at the lower end of the table.
It should be an opportunity for him to score heavy but with the black just south of the middle right pocket, his position goes AWOL and he’s forced to play safe off the blue after a run of 13.
TRUMP 0-0 STEVENS (22-4)
The Welsh Dragon immediately fouls coming off the left cushion while attempting to caress the pack with the merest of flicks from near to the yellow in baulk.
The world number 51 makes of a mess of it at the second attempt too and then has a back and forth with the referee about where the cueball should be replaced before finally getting his trajectory right at the third time of asking.
Trump immediately plays the same safety and Steven fluffs the escape yet again.
The Welshman gets it right and flips the tables with a neat safety of his own in-behind the green, eventually leading to Trump being the one trying to escape from close to the yellow.
The world number one also fouls in what it is a very cagey opening before Stevens is unfortunate to go in-off playing a safety off at the summit of the pack.
No pots yet, but plenty of points on the board!

Trump made a sublime 147 in the first round and is back in action today against Matthew Stevens.
