Team USA snowboard star Chloe Kim has revealed she sustained a dislocated shoulder injury with a month to go until the Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, which is live on TNT Sports and discovery+
The two-time gold medallist in the halfpipe said she dislocated her shoulder in a training accident, although the length of time that she will be on the sidelines remains unclear.
"I hate that I have to make this video but I just felt it was necessary, so here we go," Kim said in a post on Instagram.
"I’ve been here a couple of days, I'm currently in Switzerland. On my second day of training I took the silliest fall that ultimately resulted in me dislocating my shoulder, which is so fun.
"Trying to stay really optimistic as I don't have much clarity right now as I haven’t gotten an MRI yet.
"It is scheduled for [Friday]. So, anyways, I should have a better idea of what is going on tomorrow."
Kim won halfpipe gold in Pyeongchang in 2018 and backed that up with another victory in Beijing four years later. She is attempting to become the first woman to win three golds in the halfpipe.

"The positive thing is I have range, I am not in that much pain. Obviously, I don’t want it to keep popping out, which has happened," Kim continued.
"So yeah, just trying to stay really optimistic. I feel really good about where my snowboarding is at right now. I know the minute I get cleared and I’m good to go, I should be fine but I just hope that doesn’t take too long.
"But I’m going to be chilling for the next little while…"
Kim’s victory in Pyeongchang catapulted her onto the global stage as a 17-year-old, although her exploits in the X-Games had already announced her as one to watch going into that Winter Olympics. She was too young to compete at Sochi in 2014.
Winning the gold in South Korea by a healthy margin, Kim then backed up that result in Beijing - again taking top step of the podium in style for Team USA.
But it remains to be seen whether she can compete in the upcoming Games with the severity of her injury yet to be made clear.
The 2026 Winter Olympics begin on February 6 in Milano-Cortina, and the women's halfpipe qualification runs are scheduled for Wednesday, February 11.
