Adam Ramsay-Peaty warns of 'momentous effort' needed for Team England and Team GB swimmers ahead of Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games

Adam Ramsay-Peaty has warned that Team England and Team GB face a ”momentous effort” to compete for gold medals at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games - but believes they will be fuelled by their efforts at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Team England finished fourth in the swimming medal table at the Commonwealth Games with four golds, 12 silvers and 10 bronzes.
Australia were runaway winners with a whopping 37 gold medals, while South Africa (six gold medals) and Scotland (five gold medals) also finished ahead of England.
Four years ago, England were second in the medal table, again behind Australia, with eight gold medals.
England finished in Glasgow with silver in the men’s 4x100m medley relay behind Australia, who secured gold in a Games record of 3min 28.71sec.
Ramsay-Peaty, who also won two individual bronze breaststroke medals, said England had not had a ”great week” but backed them to ”grow” ahead of LA.
”I think as a team we could have done a lot better and actually finishing on a silver medal here is even more fuel for us,” he told TNT Sports.

”We said we had to fight for every inch to get that medal tonight. We have two years now and how can we grow this team? Not just England but Team GB.
”It’s going to be a momentous effort because the other nations are very strong but we can do it.”
Jacob Mills, 18, was one of Team England’s standout performers at the Games with five silver medals. He swam a 47.70 anchor leg in the final relay to ensure England took silver.
”It’s been a good week,” he said. ”I couldn’t really expect much more with the training I have had. It’s been nice to come together with the lads.
”It’s just moving that on to LA, and it’s really exciting to see what we can do by then.”
He added: ”Some of us have had tough weeks but it shows the resilience we’ve had in the team. I’ve not had the best week individually, so to come away with some silverware is really impressive. It’s about building on that, moving into next season and into LA.”
While Mills is at the start of his swimming career, James Guy is still going strong at 30 and has his sights on continuing to the next Olympics.

Guy won the 49th major swimming medal of his career as he shared silver with fellow Brit Matt Richards in the 200m freestyle.
Guy, who finished with two silver medals at the Games, said about his future: ”I love my swimming career.
”I'll do it for as long as I can. I'm still beating the younger lads there, and it's something that I feel like, when I'm racing, I'm that nine-year-old James Guy who loves to swim and loves to race.
”I'll keep going for as long as I can, until I literally can't do it anymore, or I start getting beaten.
”The most important thing is you have to love the sport. You ask anyone who does it at an older age, they love what they do.
”The second thing is doing the right work for you, doing the right training to get the best out of yourself.

”I'm 30, I'm married, my wife and I are moving on with our lives, so you have to balance life properly.
”As you get older, it definitely pulls you in different directions. It's like, "I can't train on a Saturday morning because we've got a weekend away with my wife and my dog."
Goodburn was the ‘human story of the meet’
Away from the medals, Scotland’s Archie Goodburn was one of the most inspirational stories in the pool. Goodburn was diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago at the age of 22.
He spoke openly at the Games about wanting to fight for other cancer patients and also reached the men's 50m breaststroke final, and swam in the 4x100m medley relay team.
”What he has gone through, there is no way to do him justice,” said former Scotland swimmer Michael Jamieson on TNT Sports.
”He has performed admirably and spoken so openly and rawly, and about how delighted he feels where he is in a position to push himself physically this week. That would have meant the world to him to be involved tonight.
”And it’s not just competing but performing lifetime best swims. Just over two years ago he was diagnosed, and since then he has thrown himself head first into fund-raising and advocacy to help patients in similar positions.
”He is the human story of the meet and everyone watching the Games is supporting him, his family, and the team around him. I am delighted he was involved in the relay.”
