Carlos Alcaraz targets return from injury after being included in draw for next month's Cincinnati Open

World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz could be back in action as soon as next month after he entered the draw for the Cincinnati Open, following a lengthy spell out with a wrist injury he picked up in the spring.

Alcaraz, 23, has not played since April when he suffered a wrist injury at the Barcelona Open and consequently missed both the Roland-Garros and Wimbledon Grand Slams.
Having won the Australian Open at the beginning of the year, the seven-time major champion missed out on the chance to defend his French Open title, with Alexander Zverev taking the opportunity to claim his first Grand Slam title.
Alcaraz would have been going for a third Wimbledon title in four years had he been fit for the action in SW19, but it was Jannik Sinner who retained the title he won last year for the first time.
However, Alcaraz could soon make his return following three months away from the court, after he was included in the draw for next month's ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
He will miss the next Masters tournament - the Canadian Open, which begins in early August - but has seemingly pencilled in his potential comeback with the Cincinnati Open later in the month.
Alcaraz is the defending Cincinnati Open champion after he beat Sinner in last year's final, following the Italian's withdrawal due to illness.
The Spaniard will be hoping to hit the ground running to prove his fitness ahead of the US Open, which begins on August 30, where he is also the reigning champion.
Sinner has claimed all five Masters titles so far this season, and in Alcaraz's absence, will look to add a sixth in Montreal.

Britain's new No. 1 Arthur Fery will be among those competing for success in Cincinnati, while the former top-ranked British player, Jack Draper, will have to rely on a wildcard.
Cincinnati might see the return of Alcaraz, but it will not feature Britain's Emma Raducanu on the women's side of the tournament.
Raducanu pulled out of Wimbledon before her opener due to a stress fracture in her lower leg.
The 23-year-old, who remarkably won the US Open at 18 years old, is in a race to be fit for the final Grand Slam of the season.
