Jannik Sinner joins Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in history books after landmark Indian Wells triumph over Daniil Medvedev

Jannik Sinner joined tennis royalty as only the third player to complete a rare set of elite-level tournaments after beating Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final. Only Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer can match the Italian, with all three winning all six hard-court ATP Masters 1000 titles, as well as the Nitto ATP Finals, the Australian Open and US Open.

Jannik Sinner became only the third player to win all six ATP Masters 1000 hard-court titles after he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the 2026 Indian Wells Open final on Sunday.

At just 24 years old, Sinner joined tennis royalty in an exclusive three-player club to win all six hard-court ATP Masters 1000 titles, as well as the Nitto ATP Finals, the Australian Open and the US Open.

He stands alongside only Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer to achieve the accomplishment, etching his name into the tennis history books.

Sinner beat Medvedev 7-6(6) 7-6(4) in straight sets, as this thriller followed Aryna Sabalenka's epic victory over Elena Rybakina.

Sinner, who entered the contest with a slight head-to-head advantage over Medvedev after their 15 previous encounters, won the tournament without dropping a single set.

He became the first player to win consecutive Masters 1000 titles without losing a set since the series began in 1990 after he charged to victory in Paris last autumn.

"First of all, I want to start with Daniil and your team," Sinner said after the match. "It’s great to see you back playing this kind of level.

"I know you practise very, very hard. You have a great team behind you. Keep going. Keep pushing. I wish you all the best for the rest of the season.

"Of course, my team, family, and friends at home, I want to thank you for keeping pushing me to the limits.

"We came very, very early to prepare for this. Now it’s even more special holding this beautiful trophy. Thank you so much for all the support."

In Medvedev's response, the Russian said he "loves" to watch him play rival Carlos Alcaraz, but was glad to prevent it from happening in the final after knocking the Spaniard out in the penultimate round.

"First of all, I'd like to congratulate Jannik," he said. "Amazing tennis, tough to play against you. I tried my best. It was a good match. Big congrats to you for everything you're doing.

"Whenever you play Carlos I love to see it. Now I was happy to not let Carlos play you again but love watching you guys, love watching you. Go for it, continue winning. Never stop and to your team as well."

Sinner added: "Now I understand why they call this the paradise of tennis. It has been a special day for Italy because I'm a huge Formula One fan and having Kimi Antonelli bring it home [at the Chinese Grand Prix], thanks Kimi."

Alongside Indian Wells success, Sinner, Djokovic and Federer have claimed glory in Shanghai, Miami, Canada, Cincinnati and Paris.

Federer completed the set in 2014, while Djokovic sealed his collection in 2018 - both in their early 30s - significantly later in their careers than Sinner managed.

After he won his first Masters 1000 trophy in 2023 in Toronto, it took the Italian less than three years to win the remaining elite-level hard-court titles.
