Jack Draper pulls out of Mubadala DC Open with latest injury setback after missing Australian Open, Roland-Garros and Wimbledon

Great Britain’s Jack Draper has pulled out of the Mubadala DC Open with a left arm injury in another injury setback. Just days earlier, Draper had said he felt "physically really good" under the tutelage of new coach Andy Murray.

In 2026, Draper has so far been forced to miss all three Grand Slam events, including Wimbledon.

Draper had ranked as high as No. 4 in the world rankings but has subsequently tumbled down to No. 147, which could force him into the qualifiers for the fourth and final major of 2026, the US Open in New York.

The 24-year-old wrote on social media: "These last months have felt like nothing but adversity and setbacks. Most days I’ve spent in doubt, yet hopeful that I can keep taking positive steps forward and finding ways to progress.

"On days off, I reflect, and I’m only grateful for the struggle and what it’s teaching me. Finding acceptance and being patient with the process has been my biggest challenge, but I know I’m getting closer to where I want to be.

"Very lucky to have such amazing people to help guide me through this storm, and so with that… we keep persevering. Thank you for all the support and love."

The Englishman reached the semi-finals of the 2024 US Open and reached the fourth round of both the Australian Open and French Open in 2025.

It was hoped that a partnership with Andy Murray, who himself had significant injury issues at the back end of his career, would kickstart a return to form and fitness for Draper.

Earlier this week, Draper spoke of how challenging the last year has been, as well as talking about how optimistic he was for the future before his latest setback.

"It was really difficult to miss Wimbledon, but it was the right decision," he said.

"I've had an incredibly challenging 12 months, a lot of adversity, a lot of problem solving, a lot of pain, and trying to understand that and come through it.

"I've never had a long-term injury before so I feel much better than I ever have in the last year. I feel physically really good.

"I was actually saying to the guys that I feel emotionally and mentally, for a long time, like I've been quite tired because of the process, but I'm starting to get my energy back.

"To be honest, I feel really, really good, and I'm very proud of myself, the way I'm feeling. So happy to be here."

Draper was replaced in the draw by 31-year-old American Mackenzie McDonald, who will now meet his compatriot Alex Michelsen in the opening round clash on Tuesday.

Reigning champion Alex de Minaur is also in action on Tuesday, against Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.
