Day 8 of the Australian Open is forecast to see far less extreme heat in Melbourne, despite the temperature still projected to be around 30 degrees celsius. Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff all head into the second week looking to book their respective spots in the Melbourne quarter-finals, while Alex de Minaur and Alexander Bublik are set to take centre stage in the evening.

Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff all return for Day 8 of the Australian Open as the season-opening Grand Slam enters its business end.

Fourth-round action kicks off on Sunday, with Alcaraz in action against America's Tommy Paul.

Alcaraz, continuing his search to become the youngest male winner of the career Grand Slam, enters the second week in Melbourne having yet to drop a set, coming through unscathed in a high-quality clash with Corentin Moutet on Friday.

It will be the first meeting between Alcaraz and Paul since the Spaniard sailed to victory in a little over 90 minutes in the quarter-finals of the French Open last year.

Sabalenka, meanwhile, has been undeterred in her quest to return the Australian Open title to her grasp - having surrendered it to Madison Keys in last year's final.

The two-time Melbourne champion extended her imperious unbeaten tie-break record - winning her 18th and 19th in succession as she overcame Anastasia Potapova in straight sets to reach the last 16.

The No. 1 seed has yet to falter so far, but faces a tough test in the form of 19-year-old Canadian sensation Victoria Mboko.

Coco Gauff, meanwhile, has also played her way into title contention with a series of impressive performances.

After falling a set down to Hailey Baptiste in the third round, Gauff surged back to run home a bagel set, and wrapped up victory with a decisive break - setting up Sunday's meeting with the impressive Karolina Muchova.

Gauff has won all four previous meetings with the Czech in straight sets - including in the 2023 US Open semi-finals, en route to lifting her maiden Grand Slam title.

Alexander Bublik and Alex de Minaur headline the night session on Rod Laver Arena, with Mirra Andreeva and Elina Svitolina following.

World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, who ended British hopes in Melbourne by defeating Cameron Norrie, is also in action against Francisco Cerundolo, while Daniil Medvedev faces Learner Tien in a re-match of the American's near-five hour victory in the second round last year.

When is Alcaraz playing?

Alcaraz (1) faces Paul (19) on Rod Laver Arena, with play due to start at around 2:30 (UK time).

The Spaniard's win over Moutet in the third round was his 87th Grand Slam singles victory from his first 100 matches, equalling the all-time record set by Bjorn Borg. Rafael Nadal and John McEnroe both went 86-14 across their first 100 major matches, while Novak Djokovic was 79-21 and Roger Federer 80-20.

When do Sabalenka, Gauff play?

Sabalenka's (1) clash against Mboko (17) is first up in the day session on Rod Laver Arena, with play expected to start at around 0:30 (UK time).

Gauff (3), meanwhile, faces Muchova (19) on Margaret Court Arena a little later in the afternoon, with that match expected to commence at around 3:30 (UK time)
