Carlos Alcaraz has announced he will not compete in the Davis Cup after suffering a hamstring injury. The Spaniard suffered a muscle edema in his defeat to Jannik Sinner in the Nitto ATP Finals showpiece in Turin. He was due to be part of the Spain team competing in the Davis Cup finals from November 18-23, but has now returned home "heartbroken" in order to recover ahead of the Australian Open.

World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has announced he will not compete in the Davis Cup after suffering a hamstring injury in the defeat to Jannik Sinner in Turin.
Alcaraz regained top spot off Sinner to end the year as the best player in the world, but in the Nitto ATP Finals decider, in which the Italian won in straight sets, he picked up an injury.
He was due to compete with Spain in the 2025 Davis Cup finals in Bologna from November 18-23, but due to injury, he has pulled out on medical advice.

Spain are competing with Italy, Austria, France, Belgium, Czechia, Argentina and Germany in the last eight of the competition and will take on Czechia in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
Alcaraz’s absence means neither of the two best players will be present, as Sinner also withdrew from Italy’s team, with an eye to resting up ahead of the Australian Open in January 2026, which can be watched live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
It was already rumoured that Alcaraz may miss the Davis Cup after he said following the defeat to Sinner: "I felt something at the back, in the hamstrings, after trying to return a serve."
Since then, he has had an MRI scan, which has revealed he has a muscle edema, meaning he will now look to recover ahead of the new year.
On his injury, a disappointed Alcaraz revealed on social media he would not be able to play.

"I am very sorry to announce that I will not be able to play with Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna," he said.
"I have a muscle edema in my right hamstring and the doctor’s recommendation is not to compete.

"I have always said that playing for Spain is the biggest thing there is, and I was really looking forward to being able to help to fight for the title. I am going home heartbroken."
Spain will be represented by Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez, Pablo Carrena Busta and Marcel Granollers, and they will have to call a fifth player into the squad.
