Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils standout names among 2026 French Open men's singles wildcard entrants in farewell seasons

The men's singles wildcard entrants for the 2026 French Open have been confirmed, with Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils the standout names heading to Roland-Garros.

Both Wawrinka and Monfils will be playing the Grand Slam for the final time before retiring at the end of the season.
Wawrinka, who fell in the third round of the Australian Open earlier this year, is a former champion in Paris, having beaten Novak Djokovic in the 2015 final.
"One last push," the Swiss wrote on social media.
"Every book needs an ending. It's time to write the final chapter of my career as a professional tennis player. 2026 will be my last year on tour.
"I still want to push my limits and finish this journey on the best note possible.
"I still have dreams in this sport. I've enjoyed every part of what tennis has given me, especially the emotions I feel playing in front of you.

"I'm looking forward to seeing you one more time, all around the world."
Wawrinka has three Grand Slams to his name, having won the Australian Open in 2014, the French Open in 2015 and the US Open in 2016.
The 41-year-old then fell to Rafael Nadal in the 2017 French Open final, losing 6-2 6-3 6-1 to the iconic Spaniard.
The French Open starts on Sunday, May 28, live on TNT Sports and HBO Max, with the defending champion not in the field.
The 2025 winner and world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has been forced to withdraw owing to a wrist injury that ruled the Spaniard out of Madrid and Rome.
'Life is too short'
Like Wawrinka, local favourite Monfils is also set to retire at the end of the year, having posted on X in 2025: "Life is too short. Believe me when I say that I have no regrets.
"What I do have is the feeling that I have been lucky: insanely, stupidly lucky.

"I've had the chance to play during a golden age of tennis, alongside some of the greatest names in the history of our sport: [Roger] Federer, Nadal, [Novak] Djokovic, [Andy] Murray.
"The opportunity to turn my passion into a profession is a privilege I have cherished during every match and moment of my 21-year career."

The closest Monfils has come to Grand Slam success were semi-final runs at the French Open in 2008 and the US Open in 2016.
Both Wawrinka and Monfils will be honoured after their respective final matches at the tournament.
Nishesh Basavareddy, Titouan Droguet, Hugo Gaston, Arthur Gea, Moise Kouame and Adam Walton make up the remaining wildcard entrants to the men's singles.
Clara Burel, Ksenia Efremova, Fiona Ferro, Leolia Jeanjean, Emerson Jones, Sarah Rakotomanga, Alice Tubello and Akasha Urhobo are the eight wildcard entrants in the women's singles at Roland-Garros.
