'Aren't you embarrassed?' - Tamara Korpatsch reveals explosive exchange with 'unsportsmanlike' Wang Xinyu at French Open

Tamara Korpatsch revealed the tense exchange she had with Wang Xinyu which resulted in the latter being given a code violation, as tempers flared during their French Open second-round clash.

Korpatsch beat 32nd seed Wang 6-2 2-6 6-3 on Court 7 in a match not short of controversy.

Tensions spilled over when Wang was adjudged to have landed out to give Korpatsch an opportunity to break her opponent for the opening set.

Wang was not convinced by the chair umpire's decision and immediately came to the net to make her case, before foraying onto Korpatsch's side of the net to evaluate the ball markings in the clay.

Spectators booed as Wang argued with Korpatsch over the decision, and after reluctantly accepting her fate, she was handed a code violation by the umpire.

When Korpatsch converted her second match point to seal victory, the pair came to the net and engaged in yet more heated discussions, and did not shake hands as they went separate ways after acknowledging the umpire.

Speaking to Eurosport Germany, Korpatsch revealed what exactly was said between the pair and was left disappointed by Wang's actions.

"There were two ball marks," Korpatsch said. "I thought it was one of them, but it was the other - though both were out of bounds anyway.

"She came over and looked at them. I could tell from her face that she realised both were out of bounds. What was she supposed to do?

"And then she pointed to something in the middle: 'That one was right on the line.' And I said, ‘There’s nothing there at all.’

"Then I asked her, ‘Aren’t you embarrassed to come over here just because your box is making such a fuss?’

"They then talked to me: ‘It was there. You’re pointing at the wrong one.’ I just said, 'You don’t need to talk to me. We have a referee. That’s what they’re there for.'

"There are two ball marks and both are out of bounds. None of it really matters. At the end at the net, she said, 'I don’t think that’s very nice in the first set with the ball marks.'

"Then I asked, 'What don’t you think is nice? That I didn’t gift you the ball? Fine, you know what? I’m not shaking your hand.’

"I think that was totally unsportsmanlike of her. Actually, I got along really well with her. We weren’t ‘enemies’ or anything like that. I have no idea what just happened.”

Hawkeye technology showed Wang's shot did in fact land, and Korpatsch said such evidence should lead to an apology from her beaten opponent.

”Yeah, see! Ha! She can take a look at that. Then she can apologise to me," Korpatsch said.

Korpatsch will face No. 7 seed Elina Svitolina in the third round.
