Carlos Alcaraz hopes for 'something beautiful' on return after 'frustrating' wrist injury forced him to miss French Open and Wimbledon

Alcaraz has not played since mid-April because of a wrist injury and is not competing at the French Open, which started this week live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.

He has also ruled himself out of Wimbledon, meaning he will likely not return to the ATP Tour until August.

In his absence, Jannik Sinner has dominated the tour and looks the strong favourite to lift the French Open title for the first time.

”It is frustrating,” said Alcaraz about his time off the court, speaking at the Princess of Girona Foundation's awards ceremony in Spain.

"I’m watching the results from home, watching my rivals compete, the tournaments I wish I could be playing in but can’t. 

”Everything happens for a reason. I believe it’s fate and I hope that life has something beautiful for me when I return." 

Alcaraz had started the season by winning the Australian Open to complete the Career Grand Slam.

He looked the player to beat heading into March, but Sinner has now established himself as the dominant force.

Alcaraz says that his time away from tennis has helped him to appreciate what else he has in life.

"Now I realise that what really matters, my family, who have always been there to support me; they never forced me to play tennis but always gave me the choice and that helped me continue to enjoy it and never feel stressed. They’re the reason I’m the person I’m today.”

Alcaraz also told those in the crowd that he places plenty of importance in trying his best every day.

”You have to place great value on what lies behind it,” he added.

”In my case, what motivates me is going to the tennis court or the gym every day, with a tremendous enthusiasm to try and give my best to improve and for that to be reflected on the court.

”I am grateful to the person I was six or seven years ago for having done everything possible every day.

”At 14, I had zero patience; I wanted things today for tomorrow, I always wanted to win but the beauty lies in the process.”
