Carlos Alcaraz lifted the Queen's title for a second time on Sunday to ensure that for the third year in a row he has won at least one trophy on all three surfaces. In 2025, Alcaraz has won on hard (Rotterdam), clay (Monte Carlo, Rome and French Open), and grass (Queen's). Of the 'Big Four', only Roger Federer achieved this feat, and Alcaraz could make more history at Wimbledon.

Grass, clay or hard, it doesn’t matter as far as Carlos Alcaraz’s chances of winning titles is concerned.
The world No. 2 continued to prove he is a player for all surfaces by winning his second Queen’s title on Sunday.
Alcaraz beat Jiri Lehecka in the final to claim the fourth grass trophy of his career.
He has also won 11 clay titles, including two at the French Open, and six on hard courts.
His all-surface success in 2025 - winning on clay (Monte Carlo, Rome and French Open), hard courts (Rotterdam), and grass (Queen’s) - has seen him equal a record that only one of the ‘Big Four’ managed to achieve.
Alcaraz has now won titles on all three surfaces for the third season in a row.
Of the ‘Big Four’, only Roger Federer achieved this feat, doing so from 2003-05 and 2007-09.
Novak Djokovic has had six seasons when he won titles on all three surfaces, but never three in succession, while Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray both had two seasons when they lifted trophies on clay, hard and grass.
Players to have won at least one title on all three surfaces in same season
| Player | Times achieved | Seasons |
| Roger Federer | 8 | 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2015 |
| Novak Djokovic | 6 | 2011, 2014, 2015, 2019, 2021, 2022 |
| Carlos Alcaraz | 3 | 2023, 2024, 2025 |
| Rafael Nadal | 2 | 2008, 2010 |
| Andy Murray | 2 | 2015, 2016 |
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has enjoyed most of his success on hard courts so far, winning just one career title on grass (Halle 2024) and one on clay (Umag 2022).
Alcaraz made history in 2024 when he won the French Open for the first time to become the youngest man ever to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces.
At just 21 years old, he beat the previous record which was set by Nadal, who completed his set aged 22 at the 2009 Australian Open.

Alcaraz is also the youngest male player in the Open Era to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same season, and this July will bid to follow Bjorn Borg as the only male player to win both the French Open and Wimbledon in back-to-back years.
He is also aiming to join Borg, Pete Sampras, Federer and Djokovic as the only male players to have won three successive Wimbledon titles.
What is Alcaraz’s favourite surface?
Alcaraz grew up playing on clay and won his first ATP Tour title on the surface in 2021.
He won his first Masters title and his first Grand Slam on hard courts.
And on grass he is unbeaten in finals (4-0) and has won Wimbledon twice.
So what is his favourite surface?
Asked after winning Queen’s for a second time whether grass is becoming his favourite, he said with a smile: "I mean, I can’t say no. I cannot say no.
"But we just play two tournaments per year on grass, but yeah, I’m just feeling great. I don’t think it’s my favourite surface.
"I think it’s clay right now. But I feel at home every time that I play on grass, so I think it’s a great feeling."
Wimbledon starts on Monday, June 30, with Alcaraz the second seed behind world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
British No. 1 Jack Draper will be the fourth seed, meaning he avoids Alcaraz and Sinner until the semi-finals.
