Coco Gauff wins China Open with dominant straight sets win over Karolina Muchova

20-year-old Coco Gauff strolled to her 2nd title of the season at the China Open after a 6-1 6-3 straight sets victory over the Czech Republic's Karolina Muchova. Despite struggling with her serve earlier in the week, the world No. 4 delivered a dominant performance to secure the 8th title of her young career and improve her already impressive record in finals to 8-1.

Coco Gauff delivered her best tennis when it mattered to dominate the Czech Republic's Karolina Muchova in the final of the China Open, winning her second title of the year in straight sets, 6-1 6-3.

Gauff didn’t drop a point in the opening game before breaking Muchova’s serve in the second, albeit on the third break point.

The third game replicated the first with Gauff storming the win without dropping a point, with her Czech opponent landing her first blow by defending her serve in the fourth game to make it 3-1.

For the third game running, Gauff was invincible on her serve as she extended the lead to 4-1 with Muchova failing to win a point facing her opponent's serve. Riding with all the momentum so early in the match, Gauff delivered a flawless game on her opponent's serve to break again. The game was the fourth out of six in which Muchova failed to win a point against the American as the 20-year-old strolled to a 5-1 lead.

The world No. 49 fought hard to extend the set on Gauff’s serve, saving two set points before forcing a break point. She would fail to capitalise on the opportunity as Gauff closed out the set two points later in a sweeping 30-minute, 6-1 win.

Muchova began the second set a lot better than her first, defending her serve in the opening game to take her first set lead of the match. Enthused by the lead, she doubled it by breaking Gauff for the first time in the match in a hard-fought, drawn-out second game, converting the break on her third attempt.

The world No. 4 responded in resounding fashion by converting her first break point of the set in the following game before delivering yet another whitewash in the fifth game to tie the set at 2-2.

The same would follow in the next game, with Gauff not allowing her opponent to win a point on her own serve as the American won her second break of serve of the set. The 2023 US Open champion extended her lead to 4-2 in the next game but failed to convert two more break points in the seventh game as a gritty Muchova successfully fought to defend her serve and keep her slim hopes alive.

A fabulous rally to begin the eighth game was emphatically won by Gauff via a jumping cross-body forehand which seemingly took any remaining life out of her opponent. Two unforced errors were made by Muchova as her opponent came within one game of the victory.

Gauff closed out the match comfortably in the final game, breaking her opponent's serve for the fifth time in two sets to secure the eighth win of her young career.
