Luke Whitehouse seals dominant gymnastics floor gold for Team England at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

The 24-year-old, competing in his first Commonwealth Games, finished with a score of 14.566 to seal victory by a considerable margin.

Silver went to Canada’s Rene Cournoyer with a score of 13.966, while a 13.433 was good enough for Australia’s James Hardy to win bronze and round out the podium.

Whitehouse was fancied to compete for the gold medal and lived up to the billing. He is the reigning three-time European champion on the floor and took silver at last year’s World Championships.

And he has now added a Commonwealth gold to his growing roll of honour.

Whitehouse already had a silver medal to his name at the Glasgow 2026 Games in the men’s team gymnastics competition.

"It’ll be an amazing feeling," three-time Olympic champion Max Whitlock said.

"He’s had some challenges this year but being able to go out there and prove to himself he can do that floor routine like that.

"He is well established on the floor, a three-time consecutive European champion, world medallist.

"He’s got Olympic experience, he knows he can do it, but that little mistake the other day will have knocked his confidence slightly, but he’s come out there and taken it in his stride and taken a title by an absolute storm."

Canada’s Felix Dolci narrowly missed out on a medal in fourth, ahead of South Africa’s Daniel McLean in fifth.

Reuben Ward, who made history for Scotland on day three of the Games by winning the nation’s first-ever men’s all-round gold medal, finished sixth, with England’s Nathan behind in seventh.

Whitehouse and compatriot Adam Tobin could not provide more English joy in the men's rings final, as they finished outside the medals later on Monday.

Canada secured a one-two as Dolci took gold with an immaculate routine and score of 13.766, while William Emard finished comfortably second.

Australia's James Hardy rounded off the podium, as Whitehouse and Tobin placed fifth and sixth respectively.
