The 100m is one of the marquee events at any athletics meet, but when does it take place at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, and who are the leading contenders in the men’s 100m and women’s 100m?

The athletics programme at the Games started on Monday, with England’s Sophie Hahn claiming the first athletics medal of the competition in the women’s 100m T38 final.
While several top sprinters will be missing from the 100m starting blocks, including England’s Dina Asher-Smith, Daryll Neita and Louie Hinchliffe, as well as men’s 100m world champion Oblique Seville, there will still be plenty of star power in the event.

When are the 100m finals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games?
The 100m semi-finals and finals will take place in the evening of Tuesday, July 28.
The three men’s semi-finals will start at 19:10 UK time, followed by the women’s semi-finals at 19:36.
The men’s final then takes place at 21:14, with the women’s final at 21:40.

Who is in the 100m finals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games?
The first men’s 100m semi-final will feature Ghana's Benjamin Azamati, who ran the quickest time of the heats in exactly 10 seconds.
Wales’ Jeremiah Azu and England’s Elliot Jones both run in a loaded second semi-final. Jones crossed the line in 10.07 seconds in his heat, with Azu stopping the clock at 10.10 seconds.
Also in the second semi-final are defending champion Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya, Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, who ran 10.01 to qualify, and Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi, who ran a 9.84 earlier this year.
The third semi-final features Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake, Canada’s Jerome Blake, and South Africa’s Gift Leotlela.

England have representatives in all three women’s semi-finals. Mabel Akande runs in the first semi-final along with Nigeria’s Rosemary Chukwuma and Canada’s Audrey Leduc.
Imani-Lara Lansiquot ran the fastest time in qualifying of 11.04 seconds and will be in the second semi-final. Also competing in the second semi-final is Sade McCreath, who recently broke Canada’s national 100m record, running 10.86 seconds.
Amy Hunt, who beat Dina Asher-Smith last month to defend her British 100m title, runs in the third semi-final. Jamaica’s Jonielle Smith will compete with Hunt for a spot in the final.
Who qualifies for the 100m finals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games?
The men’s and women’s 100m finals will both be contested by eight sprinters.
The first two finishers in each of the semi-finals will qualify for the final, along with the two sprinters outside the top two with the fastest times.
