Dina Asher-Smith in ‘really good shape’ as Olympic build-up continue with 200m gold at Jamaica Athletics Invitational

Dina Asher-Smith continued preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with a 200m gold medal at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational in Kingston. The Brit beat Jessika Gbai and Lanae-Tava Thomas with a time of 22.51 seconds and said she felt "in really good shape" after sealing the win. Zharnel Hughes made it a Great Britain double with a gold medal in the men's 200m.

Dina Asher-Smith insists she is in “really good shape” after stepping up preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with 200m gold at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational in Kingston.
The Team GB athlete overcame Ivory Coast’s Jessika Gbai in second and Jamaica’s Lanae-Tava Thomas in third to cross the finish line first in 22.51 seconds.
After the race, Asher-Smith gave an update on her form as she looks ahead to the Olympics this summer and said that despite her success in the Caribbean, there are improvements to be made.
"I'm in really good shape so I was hoping to get a quicker time today," Asher-Smith said.
"Clearly, I've got some stuff that I've got to work on so I’m going to go back to Austin [Texas] to work on them, but I'm happy to have won here in Jamaica."
The 28-year-old, who became 200m world champion in 2019, will bid to become an Olympic champion for the first time this summer at her third Games.

She has two Olympic bronze medals, which both came in the 4x100m relay, at the Rio Games in 2016 and Tokyo Games in 2021.
In the men’s competition in Jamaica, compatriot Zharnel Hughes made it a double gold swoop for Great Britain when he topped the men’s 200m.
Hughes, 28, ousted Fred Kerley of the United States and France’s Pablo Mateo to romp home in a time of 19.96 at the National Stadium.
The Anguilla-born athlete will also be aiming to claim his first medal at the Paris Games after becoming a 200m and two-time 4x100m European champion in 2022.
Elsewhere, fellow Brit Matt Hudson-Smith clinched the gold medal in the 400m with a time of 44.69, which was quick enough to beat USA’s Matthew Boling and Jamaica's Zandrion Barnes.
