Andrew Musgrave has left the Winter Olympics with four top-10 finishes in cross-country skiing, breaking records for Team GB's best-ever finishes in the sport. While Andrew Musgrave did not come away with a medal, Team GB’s leading cross-country skier had his most successful Games by far.

His best result before 2026 Milano Cortina was seventh place in PyeongChang eight years ago. But this time round, the 35-year-old has finished fifth, sixth twice and 10th.

Musgrave’s first sixth-place finish in the men’s 10km interval start free was Britain's best-ever Olympic cross-country finish. And he went one better as part of Team GB’s men’s team sprint free.

In a sport which been dominated by Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo in recent years, Musgrave’s achievements cannot be overlooked - in particular for a country without any prior success in it.

And despite setting a new standard for British cross-country skiing in Milan, Musgrave was left with "mixed feelings" after his final race, the men's 50km mass start, where he finished sixth again.

"The race suited me well today. It was high paced the whole way and that's good for me as it's less about fighting for positions and instead finding your spot in the pack," Musgrave told the official Team GB website. "Unfortunately, today, I pushed as hard as I could, but it just wasn't quite at the front.

"The way that athletes are put together, you always think that you're going to do better or everybody thinks that they're going to win. We are a little bit naive. I'm not regularly on the podium but then come here and think that I'm going to win everything, so there are mixed feelings.

"Sixth in the world is a good result, but it's not the chunk of medal around my neck that I dreamt of."

Although he missed out on the elusive cross country skiing medal, Musgrave has high hopes going forward.

"The whole British team have done a super good Olympics and so it's great to see that. It shows that we have a promising future."

This is Musgrave’s fifth Olympic Games, and it is the first in which he’s had friends from home come and watch.

Musgrave, who grew up in Scotland, was cheered on by a group with whom he planned to celebrate following his last race in Italy.

"My goal now is to go and drink some prosecco," he said. "My mates have come from Scotland.

"They are out there in their kilts and have never seen a ski race before, so if I'm not going to go and have a few with them, then there's something wrong with me."
