Team GB's Jennifer Dodds and Bruce Mouat suffered more curling heartbreak as they lost the mixed doubles bronze medal match 5-3 against hosts Italy at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
Despite topping the round-robin, Dodds and Mouat were knocked out by Sweden on Monday in the semi-finals and were then beaten by Italy for bronze on Tuesday afternoon.
In what was a tense affair from the off, the British duo failed to capitalise on an early opening in the first end, with Dodds unsuccessful in her attempt to win three points, instead losing one.
From that moment onwards, it felt like Team GB were always up against it, with the reigning Olympic and world champions displaying incredible skill and composure to ensure they were always a step ahead of their British counterparts.
Dodds and Mouat breezed through the round-robin, winning eight of their nine matches to qualify in first place, losing to only Switzerland, who did not make the final four.
But when it came to the pressure of playing for medals, mistakes crept into the British pair's performance and, much like four years ago in Beijing, where they also finished fourth, it was a heartbreaking end to what had been a hugely impressive week of curling from the Scottish duo.

"It was the story of our week, just heavy on a few shots, [and it] killed us," Mouat said afterwards, summing up the feeling of missing out on a medal.
"The ice was really good, we just knew it was fast and it was just hard to kick as slow as we needed to. A lot of learning to take from this week again.
"We love the pressure, that’s what we want to play for. That’s why we’re here. It’s the adrenaline that is addictive, so that’s why we continue to do this.
"This one stings; it’s pretty rough at the minute, but both of us are going to bounce back and play our best for our men’s and women’s teams, because we’ve been working with them for a long time as well."
Dodds added: "I’m proud of this team this week. You don’t get many opportunities to play in the Olympic Games, especially with one of your best friends.
"I’m just so proud of us sticking through it the whole week. It wasn’t a simple week, even though we topped the table in the round-robin.
"We had to fight and battle our way through that round-robin, so I’m just really proud of how we did that."

It is also the third time in the opening days of the Winter Olympics that Team GB have finished agonisingly short of the podium, with Kirsty Muir in the women's slopestyle and Mia Brookes in the women's big air also finishing fourth as the wait continues for a first British medal in Italy.
Coming out to a rousing reception from the pipe band, there was hope Dodds and Mouat could repeat their victory over Italian pair Amos Moasaner and Stefania Constantini in the round-robin.
Team GB had the 10th stone in the opening end and Dodds required a touch of class to get off to a brilliant start.
It proved to be the first of several near misses in the match though, with the stone failing to remove Italy's in what was effectively a four-point turnaround.
That meant that once again the pair had to chase and, though they did level the scores at 1-1 in the second end, the poise of Constantini saw Italy lead 3-1 midway through.
A hit back in the fifth end to reduce the deficit to 3-2 was immediately countered by Constantini, who routinely struck when it mattered under extreme pressure.
Team GB opted to use their powerplay in the seventh end. At one stage it looked as though they may strike with a two-pointer but Dodds was again unable to hit the Italian stone out of the way while knocking the final British stone closer and the pair had to settle with a point.
That meant they were trailing 4-3 heading into the final end, in which Italy had the hammer and their powerplay, meaning Dodds and Mouat really were up against it.

'The Djokovic of curling' strikes again

Blockers were put in on three occasions as the British pair attempted to apply some pressure on the hosts, but each time Mosaner cleared them out of the way.
He made a slight error with the eighth stone as he failed to hit a British blocker with enough panache to take a potential scoring stone with it and Dodds drew a stone into scoring territory.
It meant that Constantini had little room for error but the 26-year-old duly obliged and took out Dodds' previous stone with aplomb, securing the point for Italy and with it victory and a bronze medal - much to the delight of the home supporters.
For Dodds and Mouat, defeat will no doubt feel like a missed opportunity, especially after such a promising round-robin and having finished outside the medals four years ago.
That time, the pair both returned with medals - Mouat winning silver in the men's event and Dodds gold in the women's.
They will hope they can go better than that feat and win two golds, with Mouat and the British men getting underway on Wednesday, 11 February against China, while Dodds and the women also face China on Thursday, 12 February.
