La Vuelta Femenina Stage 1 recap - Lidl-Trek win as Ellen van Dijk leads general classification, Demi Vollering and FDJ-Suez take fourth

Lidl-Trek went back-to-back on Stage 1 of La Vuelta Feminina, backing up their opening victory in 2024 with a time of 9:30.20 to top the standings in 2025 as well.

Ellen van Dijk, who crossed the line first from the lead team, earned the maillot rojo and general classification lead going into Stage 2.

Demi Vollering began her title defence with new team FDJ-Suez with a fourth-place finish, six seconds behind Lidl-Trek.

Vollering's winning team last year, SD Worx-Protime, took second place, three seconds behind.

There was chaos at the start line for Visma-Lease a Bike as they started without a full complement of riders, Imogen Wolff missing the official start, and they finished in 10th with a 21-second deficit.

Tomorrow's hilly stage will see the peloton travel 99km from Molins de Rei to Sant Boi de Llobregat, with a category two climb early on. Here are the jersey wearers going into the second stage:

"We are super happy. We really wanted this win. We trained really well for it. We had the whole team really going for this, not just the riders, but all the staff. We're here with a lot of staff so we really, really wanted this win. To do it in the end is super nice," Ellen van Dijk said after the stage.

"It went super fast, I saw it was 9:30 or something, so before you know it you've finished! We had a really good strategy and we executed it really well. I think we did almost everything the way we wanted. Maybe we would have done some things a little bit different, but that's always the case.

"We were satisfied with the performance, and then of course it's just waiting, waiting, waiting until the other teams finished [to see] if we made it or not. When you hear you've won it's such a relief. These are the best wins because you can celebrate it all together, and like I said, also with the staff. It's a phenomenal win from all of the team of Lidl-Trek.

"Jeroen [Blijlevens] the team director came to me before the start and he said if you finish, it would be nice if you cross the line first if it goes our way.

"It worked out that way and I feel it is more as an honour from the team that I'm the one who can wear the jersey because I don't feel like it's my jersey, it's the team's jersey. But I feel like it's an honour for me, especially that the team wants me to wear it, so that's nice."
