Team GB’s latest medallist Anna Henderson admitted she broke into tears after learning she had won silver at the Women’s Individual Time Trial on the wet streets of Paris.
The 25-year-old secured Great Britain’s second medal of the 2024 Games so far and expressed her surprise at finishing in second place, but did note some quiet confidence before the race that she could finish in the medal positions.
“I can’t believe it, I had a small feeling I could reach the podium today but I can’t believe I’ve come second behind a rider like Grace [Brown],” said Henderson.
“I think I burst into tears after I found out I was second, I’m over the moon right now and can’t stop smiling.”
Henderson finished second behind Australian Brown in the rain-affected race which saw multiple riders fall off their bikes during the race including current world champion and pre-race favourite Chloe Dygert of the USA, as well as Lotte Kopecky.
Henderson admitted she had to change her gameplan when she saw the wet conditions.

"The caution changed through the corners when I saw it was raining – I was thinking 'yeah, I can lose a whole Olympic games here' but I can make it all up on the straights," she said.
“On the radio I just kept hearing 'caution, control', and I saw a lot of girls had problems today so I’m really happy I could hold it upright today.
“You try and stay relaxed but you can freeze up in those corners, I kept saying to myself to not freeze up and stay away from the white paint on the road.

"Take each corner step by step and get the power up on the straights and here I am – that plan paid off and I can’t believe it.”
Henderson will also compete for Team GB in the Women’s Road Race next Sunday alongside Lizzie Deignan, Pfeiffer Georgi and Anna Morris, but stated she’s hoping for warmer, drier conditions after the rain during the Individual TT.
“I’ve done so much heat acclimation, so I hope it’s a hot one! I can’t wait for next Sunday.”
