TIM WELLENS: I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY AND I TOOK IT
It's a very special victory. I think everybody knows the Tour de France. Everybody wants to ride the Tour de France. Not many people win in the Tour de France. It's very good for the team. I felt super good today, before the stage. There was a big crash - I hope everyone is okay - and Tadej said he tried to block but they kept attacking. I followed one move and I was in the breakaway. On the climb it exploded again and on the last climb of the day I felt good and knew I had to go solo. On the top of the climb I found my moment and that I had the legs to keep it until the end. I had an opportunity, I took it, and I had the legs to finish it. Of course I pay my victory to Tadej in yellow. I knew I had to enjoy the moment but I kept riding to the finish line because I wanted a big gap to enjoy it.

It's very special because if there's one rider who deserves a victory in the Tour de France it's Tim Wellens. He's so dedicated to the team, to Tadej, always five centimetres from Tadej. In training camps, in races, in everything. Today he was in the break and in position to not need to work. The energy he saved in the first part of the breakaway he had left for the final. It was clever like always, just before the long descent. Another fantastic day for the team.

It's not a bit surprise, but it's a super strong move. Barguil does well to follow for 30 seconds or so before fading. Simmons is determined not to lose touch with the Belgian champion. Almost all of the climbing has been completed and it's mostly downhill to Carcassonne from here.

Simmons with four, Campenaerts 2, and one more for Tim Wellens. Over the summit the American implores the others to work. Wellens is playing a clever game, refusing to meet his gaze. This group has 30 seconds on the next set of chasers, with Barguil not out of it completely in the third position on the road.
