Street Fighter 6 group stage heats up as Week Four of the Esports World Cup gets underway

The MSC playoffs opened with two quarter-final clashes as Yangon Galacticos took on Pro Esports, while Team Vitality faced Team Falcons PH for a place in the last four.

Fans got to witness the first teams working their way through to the semi-final, with Yangon Galacticos now set to face Team Falcons PH as they beat their respective opponents.

In the Street Fighter 6 tournament we saw the teams that progressed to the playoffs from Group BB and Group CC, with four from each respective pool making it through.

Group BB saw Team Heretics’ Lexx and Team Falcons’ Craime progress through the upper bracket, while Nephew and Tokido kept their title hopes alive by fighting their way through the lower bracket.

In Group CC, Hinao and FAV Gaming’s Moke advanced via the upper bracket, with Higuchi and Yamaguchi completing the playoff line-up after emerging from the lower bracket. Attention now turns to Group AA and Group DD, where the remaining playoff places will be decided before the knockout stage gets underway later this week.

The Overwatch Champions Series also kicked off with the opening matches in Groups A and B. Virtus.Pro will now face Twisted Minds in the next round of the upper bracket in Group A after they defeated 9Z Globant and T1, respectively.

On the other side of this draw, Weibo Gaming beat Team Liquid so they’ll now face Team Falcons after they beat Dallas Fuel.

Group B also produced plenty of drama as Crazy Raccoon set up an upper-bracket clash with Spacestation Gaming after beating Team Secret, while Geekay Esports will meet Zeta Division after victories over JD Gaming and AG.AL respectively.

Meanwhile, the lower bracket features Team Secret against JD Gaming and AG.AL versus Varrel, with all four teams battling to keep their hopes of lifting the Overwatch Champions Series trophy alive.
