An excellent Ella Toone strike and a late brace on debut for 17-year-old Mared Griffiths highlighted an emphatic 6-0 victory for Manchester United over Wolves, as Marc Skinner's side advanced to the Women's FA Cup quarter-finals. Elisabeth Terland, Leah Galton and Aoife Mannion were also on target in the rout. Elsewhere, Aston Villa advanced with a 3-2 win over WSL rivals Brighton.

Ella Toone continued her fine form on her return from injury, netting Manchester United's fourth goal in a thumping 6-0 victory over third-tier Wolves to advance to the Women's FA Cup quarter-finals.

The England international previously spoke about her injury-enforced two-month absence being a "blessing in disguise", and has followed that up with a series of impressive performances.

Victory was a foregone conclusion by the time Toone found the net, with Elisabeth Terland and Leah Galton establishing a two-goal cushion in the first half.

Aoife Mannion made it three shortly after the break, and United were out of sight when Toone sunk an effort into the bottom corner from outside the box just two minutes later - her sixth goal in as many appearances since returning.

With his side cruising, United boss Marc Skinner made a triple change on the hour mark which slowed the pace of the affair somewhat.

The Women's Super League side, however, found a second wind in the dying moments of the match, putting another two goals beyond their lower-ranked opponents to emphatically seal their spot in the last eight.

Skinner introduced 17-year-old Mared Griffiths nine minutes from time, and she went on to score a quick-fire late double on her United debut to make the result even more convincing.

Villa hold on to beat Brighton

Nikita Parris' brace was ultimately in vain as Aston Villa secured a 3-2 victory over Brighton to confirm their spot in the Women's FA Cup quarter-finals.

Former Arsenal and Manchester United star Parris put The Seagulls ahead on the stroke of half-time, but Villa's Anna Patten provided an instant response to restore parity by the break.

And the quick-fire response seemed to buoy Villa, as Rachel Daly and Chasity Grant both found the target within 10 minutes of the restart for a two-goal advantage.

Parris again found the back of the net with 18 minutes remaining, but Brighton could not find the breakthrough in a frantic finish as they went crashing out of the cup.
