Arsenal 0-2 Brighton & Hove Albion result - Madison Haley and Caitlin Hayes stun The Gunners and progress into Adobe Women's FA Cup semi-finals

Brighton & Hove Albion secured one of the stand-out results in their history after a thoroughly deserved 2-0 win over Arsenal in their Adobe Women's FA Cup quarter-final clash at Meadow Park.

A goal each from Madison Haley and Caitlin Hayes secured Brighton's safe passage into the semi-finals in what was a very mature performance from Dario Vidosic's side in north London.

Renee Slegers' side had the best chance of an evenly-contested first half, with Chiamaka Nnadozie forced into a fine save to deny Smilla Holmberg from point-blank range.

Stina Blackstenius then saw her strike ruled out for a foul on Moeka Minami shortly after the restart, before Haley broke the deadlock.

After a neat one-two with Fran Kirby, she fired an excellent angled strike past Daphne van Domselaar to put Vidosic's side on course for victory.

Kirby then registered her second assist of the afternoon when her corner was met by Hayes' superb header at the far post.

The Seagulls were good value for their lead, with Kirby inches away from sliding in a third from Carla Camacho's cross.

Arsenal continued to misfire going forward,but Nnadozie had to be alert to push away Laia Codina's strike in the closing stages.

Slegers' side may have been a tad unfortunate not to earn a penalty when Alessia Russo went down in the box after tangling with Maelys Mpome, but can have no complaints with the result on the balance of play.

"I was so impressed with Brighton and they way they played, how they were set up. They worked hard, they got the goals. Arsenal looked a little bit tired, and a bit disjointed. They had to make the changes, they didn't really make a difference, but full credit to Brighton."

Not many would've seen that coming!

Russo went down in the box after a collision with Mpome, who was lucky not to concede a penalty there.

She said: "With all the energy and aggression Brighton have needed, they've still needed the game craft, and they've got that from Fran Kirby. She's had such an influence, a growing influence in the game. They need a bit of game craft, she provided it."

That was close from McCabe!

Her left-footed free-kick goes wide of the post, and you sense that could be it for Arsenal.

Cowen said: "She's been immaculate today, the Nigerian international."

Ward added: "Again, Nnadozie at the right place, at the right time in the important parts of this game. Arsenal throwing everything at it now."

After her two assists today, Kirby is replaced by Noordam.

Olislagers is replaced by Mpome.

The Brighton defender goes into the referee's book for time-wasting.

"Terrific set-piece. Corner comes across, and Hayes rises above. Far too easy. It's a free header, really. It's a devastating second goal for Brighton, just loops over the keeper. She gets herself away, and nobody challenges."

Arsenal make their fourth change, as McCabe enters the fray for her 300th Gunners appearance.
