Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham result - Sam Kerr and Veerle Buurman secure semi-final berth for Blues

Chelsea advanced to the semi-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup but were made to fight hard by Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-1 win.

High-quality goals from Sam Kerr and Veerle Buurman proved the difference, but a costly mistake by England’s Hannah Hampton in goal threatened to at least take the game to extra time.

Tottenham shot out of the blocks and Beth England traded early chances with Lauren James but Chelsea asserted control as the half wore on and their dominance was rewarded just before half-time when Kerr headed home from a Keira Walsh cross.

It was a brilliant cross that Kerr took full advantage of by bullying the Spurs centre-backs to win space in the air, though visiting goalkeeper Lize Kop could have dealt with the delivery better.

Hampton made an error early in the second half when she misjudged an Eveliina Summanen free-kick from wide that swung into the net, and after Chelsea missed a string of chances including a golden opportunity for Kerr, it looked like the game was headed for extra time.

Buurman disagreed though and with home fans still appealing for a penalty, the Dutch player fired a laser into the top corner from outside the box in the final five minutes to seal the win and ensure Chelsea took their place in the FA Cup final four alongside Liverpool, Brighton & Hove Albion and one of Birmingham City or Manchester City.

Chelsea are into the semi-finals! Tottenham gave it their all but they were undone by a couple of magic moments by The Blues.

That was the chance for Tottenham!

In the opening seconds of three minutes of stoppage time, it's a brilliant flowing counter that gives Tandberg a chance on the edge of the box but she drags her shot just wide, that had to be on target.

And right on cue, Buurman has won it for Chelsea!!! Finally the pressure tells, fans were baying for a penalty after Baltimore hit the deck but the Blues recycled the ball through Walsh, who fed Buurman on the edge of the box.

After so many failed deliveries into the box by her teammates, the Dutchwoman doesn't mess around and HAMMERS her shot into the top corner, hitting the proverbial postage stamp and giving Kop no chance!

If Chelsea can find the net then it will surely be game over at this stage. Tottenham are yet to make a change, when will Ho pull the trigger?

Kaptein breaks into the half-space and fires a perfect ball across the face of goal that's BEGGING to be turned home!

Sam Kerr is running onto it yet inexplicably backs away, perhaps thinking there's a teammate behind her in a better position.

But the Australian looked perfectly placed to turn it home.

Baltimore has been lively since coming on and fires another ball into the danger area that deserved a better finish.

Chelsea have looked more likely to score since that double change.

James showed flashes in the first half but has been fairly anonymous since the break so Wieke Kaptein takes her place.

And Sandy Baltimore, the best player remaining in the cup to be named after a city in Maryland, replaces Sjoeke Nüsken in a fairly like-for-like change.

A low cross towards England probably wasn't the right decision after good work on the right flank by Tottenham but they're posing more of a threat now Chelsea have to attack.

Ellie Carpenter sneaks in front of Vinberg - who's had a tough hour so far - and makes contact on a curling cross at the back post.

It's a fantastic opportunity, perhaps the Australian was a little surprised that it was so easy to win her one-on-one because she somewhat rushed the chance and headed wide.

And unsurprisingly it's Charles making way, for Veerle Buurman.

An England shot was flying wide but Hampton is taking no chances after the Summanen goal, comes out to catch the ball under no pressure... and drops it, with the ball bouncing out for a corner.

Meanwhile, Charles isn't moving as freely as she was at the start of the game.

Having just got themselves back in the game, Tottenham try to return the lead to Chelsea immediately! Kerr pounces on an underhit backpass and tries to round the keeper but Kop gets the slightest of touches to the ball, helping it wide.

An error by the Chelsea defence and Spurs are level! They won a free kick to the left of the penalty area and the Finn swung in a curling delivery targeting the visiting players looking to attack the ball and get a glancing touch.

Yet Hampton was distracted by that rush and did notice the ball was on target - she realises too late and gets a fingertip to it but that's not enough to prevent the goal!

Out of nowhere, we're all square.

Tottenham had an early chance in the second half but since then the game has avoided both final thirds.

Can Chelsea find a way back into the contest?
