Manchester City took a huge step towards becoming Barclays Women's Super League champions for the first time in a decade after beating title and local rivals Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Vivianne Miedema's quickfire first-half double set Andree Jeglertz's side on their way to a comfortable victory, and two more wins will seal the club's second league title, having claimed their first in 2016.
City had threatened considerably prior to Miedema's headed opener in the 17th minute, with Lauren Hemp rattling the bar and Alex Greenwood forcing a first-minute save from Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
Miedema's second arrived less than two minutes later, again a cross from the right nodded into the Stretford End net.
The visitors were denied a third first-half headed goal, this time from Rebecca Knaak, as winger Aoba Fujino was penalised for a push from a corner.
"The first half was one of the best," Jeglertz said during a post-match press conference. "Looking at the players’ ability, in this kind of game here and having that confidence, that is amazing just to watch and observe and be a part of."
Kerstin Casparij, creator of City's second, got herself on the scoresheet to seal all three points shortly after the interval.
The right-back ghosted in at the far post to tap home Hemp's lofted cross and City cruised towards the finish line to complete just their second league double over Manchester United in WSL history.
With United their closest challengers until Arsenal beat Spurs to go above them on goal difference, just five points from their final three games will be enough to bring the title to the blue half of Manchester.
The only minor concern for Jeglertz after their victory was the condition of star striker Khadija Shaw, who went down holding her shoulder in the closing stages.
Jeglertz gave a brief update on her injury, confirming that the 29-year-old had not yet undergone a comprehensive assessment.
"She was happy after the game, so hopefully nothing serious," the coach said.
Reds hold on for derby bragging rights
The 10 women of Liverpool survived a second-half fightback from Everton to clinch a 3-2 victory in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
The visitors held a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time thanks to strikes from Ceri Holland, either side of Martina Fernandez's own-goal.
Things were not so straightforward in the second period for Gareth Taylor's side, with goals from Aurora Galli and Zara Kramzar setting up a nervy finish following Grace Fisk's red card.
But The Reds clung on to their first away win of the season and their first Merseyside derby victory in the WSL in nine attempts.
Holland opened the scoring from the spot after just 11 minutes, stroking her effort down the middle after Inma Gabarro was penalised for a handball.
Liverpool doubled their lead shortly after as Fernandez headed Alejandra Bernabe's cross into her own net.
The visitors looked to have taken the game out of sight four minutes before the interval as Holland drove from inside her own half before curling an effort into the top corner to score her second and her team's third.
However, Everton pulled one back in the 64th minute as Galli's free-kick deflected off the wall and past Jennifer Falk.
The visitors were then reduced to 10 players just two minutes later as captain Fisk picked up a second yellow card after tripping Kramzar off the ball.
It was Kramzar who reduced Everton's deficit to just one in the first minute of stoppage time after being given too much space in the area, but The Reds were able to hold on to their slender advantage in the final minutes.
Liverpool remain in 10th, but they are now just one point behind Brighton and three points shy of London City Lionesses, Aston Villa and Everton, who stay in sixth spot.
Despite their poor record against Everton in the league, Taylor's side have now claimed successive wins over their local rivals, having won 2-1 when the sides met in the Adobe FA Cup last month.
Gunners trounce Spurs to go second
In the thrilling race to secure UEFA Champions League football for next season, Alessia Russo scored a hat-trick as Arsenal triumphed over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 to climb into second.
Ahead of the derby at the Emirates, Spurs were hoping to cut the gap to Renee Slegers' side to three points. Instead, The Gunners stamped their mark on the fixture to go within 11 points of leaders Manchester City.
The win, sparked by an early Russo double, extended Arsenal's unbeaten run in the league to 12 matches, a streak started after their 3-2 defeat to Man City back in October.
A frantic start to the match on Saturday evening saw Russo strike in the fifth and seventh minutes, followed by Frida Maanum putting into her own net midway through the first-half.
Russo restored her side's two-goal advantage and wrapped up her hat-trick in the 27th minute, intercepting Lize Kop's errant pass and punishing the Spurs keeper's mistake immediately.
Substitute Caitlin Foord grabbed the hosts' fourth just after the hour mark with her first WSL goal since September before Bethany England reduced the arrears with a spectacular effort from a tight angle.
But Stina Blackstenius had the final say deep into stoppage time, finishing off a flowing counter and providing gloss to the scoreline.
