Harry Kane praised the "intensity" of Bayern Munich's performance as they beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie. It means Vincent Kompany's side bounced back from a disappointing 1-1 draw against Celtic in their last game in the competition. England striker Kane bagged himself a brace, but insists they still have it all to do to reach the quarters.

Harry Kane is warning Bayern Munich against complacency, despite a dominant performance in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.

The England striker bagged a brace during a 3-0 win over German rivals Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena.

To make matters worse for the visitors, they had Nordi Mukiele sent off shortly after the hour mark.

Kane, who opened the scoring in the ninth minute, was thrilled with the team's performance.

"I think we took the moments well," he said. "The first goal, a bit out of nowhere, it wasn't a big chance, but we managed to take that moment.

"I feel like we grew into the game. At 1-0, it was still really tight. The second goal, obviously, it was a mistake that we capitalised on and then [with] the sending off, the momentum kept going in our favour.

"We were able to keep adding to the scoreline. It would have been nice to have got another goal at the end with that chance.

"Overall, a really dominant performance, but, as always, it's the first leg - we can't get carried away.

"We know what type of team they are. We know they can be really dangerous. Next week will be tough."

The result is Bayern's third successive victory across all competitions, and means they are now unbeaten in 10 outings.

It is also the first time they have beaten Leverkusen since Alonso took the reins at the BayArena in October 2022.

As such, Vincent Kompany's side have one foot in the quarter-finals, as they attempt to lift the European Cup for a seventh time.

Kane, meanwhile, is a step closer to winning the first major trophy of his career.

He is taking nothing for granted though, insisting Bayern cannot afford any let up in the return fixture next week.

"I think we felt the hype around the game," he added. "We knew that we were here at the Allianz.

"There was a lot of talk after the last performance away from home, but there were a lot of different factors that went into the game.

"We were fresh. We've come off playing on Friday night. We had a good time to prepare. Everyone was ready to go out there and have a high intensity, especially without the ball.

"That's where the game was won really today; tidying up on the second balls, controlling the game from there and transitioning from there. We made it really difficult for them.

"Tuesday will be no different. We play on Saturday and then on Tuesday, so it's another quick turn around. We have to be ready with the same intensity."
