Newcastle United have suffered a huge blow as left-back Lewis Hall has been ruled out for the rest of the season, after injuring a bone in his foot. It means the 20-year-old will miss the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on March 16, while Anthony Gordon is also set to miss the Wembley clash through suspension. Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the season "after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot", Newcastle United confirmed on Wednesday.
It serves as a major blow for Eddie Howe's side ahead of their Carabao Cup final meeting with Liverpool on March 16, as they hunt a first major domestic trophy since their 1954/55 FA Cup triumph.
Hall has been an ever-present for Newcastle this season, accruing 34 appearances across all competitions, and his consistent displays earned him his maiden senior call-up for England's UEFA Nations League squad in November.
"Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the 2024/25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot," read a Newcastle United statement on social media.
"Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team."
Hall sustained the injury during Newcastle's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in February, according to the Premier League club, despite the defender playing the entirety of the match.
Matt Targett or Kieran Trippier will likely be deployed as Hall's successors for the remainder of the campaign, having filled in the left-back berth on occasion this season.
And the 20-year-old's injury also puts pay to his chances of featuring in Thomas Tuchel's first England squad, while leaving the German with a shortage of options in the left full-back position for their World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia later in March.

Hall's absence is the latest blow to Newcastle's hopes of overcoming runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, with Anthony Gordon also set to miss the match through suspension.
Gordon's two-handed shove to the head of Jan Paul van Hecke saw him earn a straight red card in Newcastle's FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, with reports circulating that the club will not attempt to appeal the decision.
Newcastle, sitting sixth in the Premier League, are hunting another season in the UEFA Champions League and sit just four points off third-placed Nottingham Forest.
