PSV Eindhoven 3-1 Juventus as it happened – Juve stunned as Flamingo's extra-time goal seals pulsating victory

PSV produced a brilliant attacking performance to knock Juventus out of the Champions League in a pulsating game in Eindhoven.

Ryan Flamingo’s extra-time goal gave PSV a richly-deserved 3-1 victory on the night – and, more importantly, their first win in a Champions League knockout tie since beating Arsenal in 2006-07.

Juventus, who led 2-1 from the first leg in Turin, controlled the game expertly in an uneventful first half. But PSV were a different team after the break, and the Juventus defence were barely able to draw breath for the rest of the game.

Ivan Perisic opened the scoring in the 53rd minute in majestic style, flicking Noa Lang’s pass up before volleying it into the far corner.

Timothy Weah equalised on the night 10 minutes later with an equally well-taken goal, thrashing a shot past Walter Benitez from the edge of the D.

PSV refused to take no for an answer, attacking the Juventus goal relentlessly, and drew level on aggregate again when Ismael Saibari scored from close range in the 74th minute.

Juventus held on to reach extra time but had no answer when Johan Bakayoko’s cross ricocheted around the six-yard box before being turned into the net by Ryan Flamingo.

Dusan Vlahovic hit the post at the end of the first period of extra time, but PSV would have been out of sight by that stage were it not for the Juventus keeper Michele Di Gregorio.

PSV’s win completed a superb Champions League week for the Eredivisie, and an utterly miserable one for Serie A. AC Milan and Atalanta were eliminated on Tuesday; now Juventus have joined them on the Champions League scrapheap.

Adam Summerton: "What a roar with that final whistle. PSV with a knockout tie in the Champions League for the first time since 2007 and just look what it means to them."

Stephen Craigan: "Relief is probably the first thing, but pride will be absolutely bursting. They grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half.

"Perisic the veteran, showed he’s still got the quality, still got the class. Saibari I thought was an absolute standout throughout the game and Noa Lang, who we probably criticised a little bit in the first half, but boy did he stand up and take responsibility in the second half.

"PSV had the better players, they had the composure, they retained possession and they created more chances. What a night!"

From the beginning of the second half PSV were outstanding and would have won by more but for the heroic goalkeeping of Michele Di Gregorio.

It's a huge blow to Juventus - and to Serie A, which will have only one team, Inter, in the last 16.

The atmosphere is extraordinary.

Di Gregorio makes yet another excellent save, flying off his line to deny Til in a one-on-one.

Those substitutions have given PSV a bit more defensive energy. They're almost through to face either Arsenal or Internazionale.

Adamo Nagalo and Couhaib Driouech come on for Noa Lang and Joey Veerman.

That was nearly the moment for Juventus. Thuram surges away from De Jong, then beats Flamingo on the edge of the area, but he snatches at the shot and clouts it over the bar.

This is Juventus's best spell of sustained attacking since the first half. There's no away goals rule so a Juventus goal now would take us to a penalty shoot-out.

After a patient move from Juventus, Gonzalez's long-range shot spins behind for a corner. Juventus are starting to look a threat once again.

Adam Summerton: "Ryan Flamingo with the biggest goal of his life so far! Right place, right time."

Stephen Craigan: "I think it’s far too easy for PSV to get that goal, just a simple ball into the box. You can’t allow Bakayoko to take two or three touches in the box and fizz it across goal. He’s on the move Flamingo. It’s the simplest of goals, but what a goal it could turn out to be. They’ve been so much better since the referee blew the whistle at the start of the second half. His team, Peter Bosz, they deserve to be in front. They deserve to be leading in the tie and all the onus now switches over to Juventus."

PSV have made a substitution: Armando Obispo replaces Olivier Boscagli.

PSV are 15 minutes away from their biggest Champions League in almost 20 years. The last time they won a knockout tie in this competition was at the Emirates in March 2007.

Di Gregorio makes another important save to deny Saibari after an excellent PSV move. They're cutting through Juventus with such ease.

Savona's flicked header is well kept out by the diving Benitez, though I think it would have been ruled out for offside.

PSV have run Juventus ragged since the start of the second half and fully deserve to be in front. It's been a quite brilliant performance.

PSV are in front in the tie for the first time! Veerman, on the left, pinged a free-kick across to Bakayoko on the right side of the penalty area. He beat Gonzalez far too easily and hammered a low cross into a crowded six-yard box. It was turned towards goal by a Juventus defender and saved by Di Gregorio, but the ball ran loose and Flamingo scored gleefully from close range.
