Matty Cash exclusive: ‘Incredible’ Morgan Rogers has ‘world at his feet’ amid sparkling Aston Villa form

Morgan Rogers is enjoying his football following an impressive start to the campaign and Aston Villa team-mate Matty Cash feels the 22-year-old has "the world at his feet". He spoke to TNT Sports about the "incredible" forward ahead of the club's UEFA Champions League clash with Bologna. "He’s that good. He can do everything," Cash said. "He’s still so young. He’s still got loads to give."

Ahead of Aston Villa’s next UEFA Champions League test, Matty Cash has been speaking about his “incredible” team-mate Morgan Rogers, who he believes “has the world at his feet”.

Unai Emery’s side welcome Serie A side Bologna to Villa Park on Tuesday - live on TNT Sports and discovery+ - as they look to build on their incredible triumph over German giants Bayern Munich last time out.

In their most recent outing on Saturday, a 3-1 comeback win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, Rogers found the target to pull Villa level for his second goal of the season, before Ollie Watkins and an Issa Diop own goal earned Villa their fifth win of the season.

Rogers, 22, broke into the Villa side in the latter stages of last season following his winter arrival from Middlesbrough in February 2024, and has been an influential figure in Emery’s side ever since.

“When we played Middlesbrough last year [in the FA Cup], we did an analysis on them and all the clips were just basically about him,” Poland international Cash revealed to TNT Sports in an exclusive interview.

“I think there were a few conversations that we were linked with him and stuff, and since then he’s come on even more.

“He’s got the world at his feet, he’s that good. He can do everything. His dribbling’s incredible, his calmness on the ball, his finishing.

“I think for him, he just wants to get his numbers up, his goals and assists. He’s still so young, he’s still got loads to give.

“He works hard every day on a day-to-day basis, he’s not one of those who doesn’t work, he works every day as hard as he can and I think that’s why he’s improving. And he’s probably got one of the best managers to help him progress.”

Rogers is just one of several exciting talents currently plying their trade at Villa Park.

With more extensive European fixtures this season in comparison to their involvement in the UEFA Conference League last campaign, Cash feels a big squad can only be a good thing.

“The squad depth now we’ve got here… The competition is crazy,” Cash said. “That’s what you want at a big club, to have competition.

“The only thing is you have to perform to play which is good! It makes you play better.”

Emery ‘is really demanding with me’

Under Emery, Villa have evolved from a team facing the threat of relegation to marking their return to the top tier of European competition for the first time in 41 years, as the Spaniard sealed the club’s first fourth-place top-flight finish since 1996.

Cash has opened up on his relationship with the former Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain head coach, and said that he has “massively” helped to improve players in the squad.

“I have a lot of one-on-one [meetings with him], the manager is really demanding with me,” Cash said as he lifted the lid on his relationship with Emery.

“Obviously, he’s got coaches as well, full-back coaches who help me, I go through my clips all the time and that benefits you and helps you as it is. But when you have those one-to-one meetings and he tells you those little details he wants you to change.

“I’ve changed a lot in my position than I have under previous managers. You can only progress and benefit from it, and he’s had that experience in managing and coaching big players and improved them.

“I think he’s done that here massively as well.”

Bologna ‘can hurt teams’

Up next for Villa is Bologna, who also finished fourth in their respective league last season to reach the Champions League for the first time in their history.

“They’re a good team,” Cash said. “Last year they showed [that] as well. Obviously, finishing in the Champions League in Serie A is a great achievement.”

Vincenzo Italiano’s side have not had the best of starts to their European campaign after drawing to Shakhtar Donetsk and losing against Liverpool, but Cash is aware of the quality of Tuesday’s opponents.

“We know their quality. We know that they can hurt teams and we’ve got to be aware of that,” he added.

“I’m sure they’ll be aware of our threats as well. It will be a great night, under the lights at Villa Park.”
