Harry Kane fitness call to go down to the wire for Real Madrid clash, Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany says

Vincent Kompany refused to make a definitive call on Harry Kane's fitness ahead of Bayern Munich's clash with Real Madrid at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night. Bavarians boss Kompany was speaking in his pre-match press conference on Monday night, after Kane had trained with the Bayern squad back in Germany earlier in the day.

Harry Kane will be given every chance to prove his fitness for Tuesday night's pivotal UEFA Champions League clash with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany has confirmed.

Kompany, speaking in his pre-match press conference at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Monday night, said that Kane - who has been struggling with an ankle issue - has trained enough of late to have not "lost his rhythm", but that he would "wait" until the day of the game to see the striker's eventual condition.

"I think it's different whether you have a muscle problem or whether you have a ligament problem, or a pain problem," Kompany said.

"Everybody in the club, including myself and especially Harry Kane, knows how important this game is.

"I think it's still always the right thing to have a discussion with each player to make sure that you get the thumbs up.

"And when we decide to go, then it's a go with no more extra thinking about it.

"It's just about performing and winning the game."

Kane trained earlier at Bayern's Sabener Strasse base, before flying to Madrid on Monday afternoon with the rest of the squad.

Kompany says 'chaos' embracer Diaz can be key

Aside from Kane, Kompany has few injury problems to worry about, and hopes his side can deliver a performance over two legs that knocks out the 15-time UCL winners.

In particular, Kompany seemed to relish the potential impact of liveware ex-Liverpool winger Luis Diaz on the tie.

"A lot of what Lucho [Diaz] has in his game are things that I really want from the team," Kompany said.

"Lucho has, of course, amazing qualities, to dribble, to score goals, to make assists, and even to defend - and he has shown it the whole season.

"But what I love maybe more is his mentality, and that side is probably what I want the most for our team.

"It's not someone that is afraid of a little bit of chaos, [he's] someone that embraces chaos and turns it into something really dangerous for every opponent that he plays against.

"And within that chaos he has an incredible amount of creativity, and again the energy for the team has been exactly what we needed.

"I have to compliment [Bayern directors] Max Eberl and Christoph Freund and the whole club for being able to bring this player over.

"I never thought it was going to be a difficult integration for him, because what we want is a lot of the things he shows all the time.

"He can be decisive, but no matter what, it will not change my opinion of what a good player he is for Bayern."
