In fact, Villa have qualified twice for the competition, having beaten Freiburg in the Europa League final in Istanbul on Wednesday night after securing a place through their minimum domestic league position.
That is because, for the second season running, a fifth English team will qualify for the Champions League.
England, through the Premier League, has again claimed one of two European Performance Spots available through UEFA’s coefficient table, which measures performance of clubs across Europe.
And fifth-placed Liverpool claimed the extra place, which went to Newcastle United last season, as they ended three points ahead of sixth-placed Bournemouth. Aston Villa finished in fourth.
Sixth and seventh places, therefore, come with UEFA Europa League qualification. That went to Bournemouth and Sunderland.
UEFA Conference football was the prize for Brighton & Hove Albion, who came eighth.

If Arsenal go on to win the Champions League - they take on Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30 live on TNT Sports and HBO Max - there will be no repercussions for other Premier League sides hoping to qualify for Europe.
As Palace won their Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig, they not only earned their first European trophy, but secured Europa League football next season.
That means there will be nine teams competing in Europe next season from the Premier League, a joint-record, along with the 2024/25 season, in which there were six teams in the Champions League, two in the Europa League and Palace in the Conference League.
