The Champions League round-of-16 second leg between Barcelona and Newcastle United at Camp Nou on Wednesday promises to be an intriguing encounter, with the tie finely poised after last week's 1-1 draw at St James' Park. Barcelona will be the favourites to progress given their impressive home record, but Eddie Howe's resilient Newcastle side cannot be counted out.

Hansi Flick's side are top of La Liga and head into the second leg in strong form after a 5-2 drubbing of Sevilla on Sunday, in which Raphinha scored a hat-trick.

Newcastle will be confident, too, though, having earned back-to-back victories in the Premier League over Manchester United and Chelsea.

A backs-to-the-wall 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday will be particularly encouraging for Eddie Howe's side, who will have to defend well at Camp Nou.

Anthony Gordon's form will also give Newcastle hope: the forward scored in the wins over United and Chelsea, and only Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe (13) has more goals than Gordon (10) in the Champions League this season.

Barcelona's attacking options are formidable, with Yamal supported by Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Marcus Rashford.

The Catalan side are still without Jules Kounde, Alejandro Balde, Frenkie de Jong and Andreas Christensen through injury.

Newcastle, meanwhile, will have to cope without talismanic midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who remains sidelined with a thigh injury, while Fabian Schar and Lewis Miley are also out.

Sandro Tonali missed the game at Chelsea with illness, and it remains to be seen if he will be available against Barcelona.
