ARSENAL DRAW WITH SPORTING TO SET UP ATLETICO MADRID SEMI-FINAL CLASH
Arsenal held Sporting to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium as they progressed to a second consecutive UEFA Champions League semi-final, winning 1-0 on aggregate.
The Gunners defended resolutely throughout and, thanks to Kai Havertz’s late strike in the first leg, they will face Atletico Madrid for a place in the final.
The home fans were buoyed by Declan Rice starting and Eberechi Eze’s return to the starting XI, but the hosts never really got going and struggled to create any real chances.
Sporting had the better of the first half and squandered two huge chances to take the lead, right before the break.
David Raya passed the ball straight to Francisco Trincao, but the former Wolves player could not make the most of the opportunity.
Just minutes later, Geny Catamo rattled the woodwork, sending shivers down the spines of the home supporters.

Catamo latched on to Araujo’s looped cross and beat Raya with his volley, only to see the ball smash against the post.
Mikel Arteta’s side managed the game a lot better in the second half and managed to limit Sporting’s ventures forward, with Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba mopping up every loose ball.
Second-half substitute Leandro Trossard rattled the woodwork late on, heading against the post from a corner.
Sporting almost took the tie to extra-time with the last kick of the game, as Joao Pedro Simoes unleashed a strike towards goal, but the ball went into the side netting to the relief of the majority of the Emirates.
It wasn’t a night full of Arsenal attacking flair or one that will fill fans with confidence before Sunday’s trip to the Etihad but Arteta won’t care as his side are now just two games away from a UEFA Champions League final.

Joe Cole told TNT Sports: "When Arsenal go to Man City at the weekend, and they get the ball, they have to find the No. 10 - whether that's Eze, or whether he plays Havertz in that position. If they don't progress the ball into that play the pressure will keep coming and coming, and you'll get turned over. It's a massive call if they go with Dowman, but this kid is special."

The manager can now restore belief having got through in the tie. It was hairy at times, but they scrapped.
