CELTIC STUNNED AS KAIRAT MAKE HISTORY
Temirlan Anarbekov was Kairat’s hero as Celtic crashed out of the UEFA Champions League with a 3-2 penalty shoot-out defeat following a drab 0-0 draw in Kazakhstan.
Scottish champions Celtic made the long trip to Almaty on the back of a poor display in the first leg last week, which also finished goalless.
And Brendan Rodgers’ team – who face Rangers this coming weekend – turned in another dismal performance, and ultimately got what they deserved as 21-year-old goalkeeper Anarbekov proved decisive in the shoot-out.
Daizen Maeda, who was fortunate not to concede a penalty for handball early in the second half, squandered a golden chance at the end of normal time, skying over when one-on-one with Kairat's keeper, and the forward was one of three Celtic players to see penalties kept out by Anarbekov.
Adam Idah and Luke McCowan also saw their spot-kicks saved by Anarbekov, who lunged to his right to parry out a weak attempt by Maeda to seal Kairat’s place in the Champions League proper for the first time in their history.

'IT’S ALL CELTIC’S FAULT'
Martin O’Neill has been speaking on Amazon Prime: "It’s their own fault. They’re out of a competition they should be in. They had little moments, but there’s never been a sustained period where they put the opposition under pressure and you thought they would capitulate."

Celtic were terrible, but Kairat are worthy winners. They were combative all night and finally got the job done in the shoot-out.
They are into the Champions League for the first time in their history, and they will be just the second team from Kazakhstan to play in the competition. Incredible!

MAEDA CAN'T TAKE IT DOWN
Having been picked out by a fantastic pass from McGregor, Maeda can't take the ball under his spell in the Kairat area.
It has been all Celtic in the past 10 minutes, but again a lack of quality when it matters most has let them down.
