Real Madrid 6-1 AS Monaco - UEFA Champions League result as Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe silence Bernabeu boos in thumping victory

Real Madrid silenced the doubters with a statement 6-1 victory over AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League.

It was the perfect European managerial bow for Alvaro Arbeloa as Los Blancos returned the cheer to the Bernabeu; a brace from Kylian Mbappe and goals from Franco Mastantuono, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham humbling the visitors.

Vinicius barked back at the boo boys, claiming the man-of-the-match award after contributing one goal and three assists, just days on from nearly being brought to tears when booed by the Madridistas during the 2-0 win over Levante.

Mbappe, who stood up for fellow attacker Vinicius before the game, got the show started with a quickfire double salvo in the first half. The France international finished first time from a Federico Valverde lay-off to make it 1-0 before tapping home from a Vinicius cross for two.

Wonderkid Mastantuono then made it 3-0 just after the break, firing under Philipp Kohn from a squared Vinicius pass. The goals kept on coming when Thilo Kehrer converted into his own net from a low Vinicius cross for 4-0 and Real’s number 7 turned scorer, rocketing the ball into the top corner for 5-0.

Jordan Teze, who had hit the woodwork earlier in the game with a thunderous long-range effort, pulled one back for Monaco as he took advantage of some over confidence from Real, chopping in on a loose pass and denying Thibaut Courtois the clean sheet.

But Bellingham then restored the five-goal advantage at the other end, making it 6-1 by latching onto a superb Valverde through ball and rounding Kohn.

Now up to second in the League Phase and all but mathematically guaranteed to finish in the top eight, Real have gone from a crisis just a few days ago to being on cloud nine. As Bellingham said during his post-match TNT Sports interview, football is a ‘fickle’ old game.

That should quieten down the boo boys.

The Brazilian simply had to square that. Instead, his shot was easily blocked.

The fourth official indicates three minutes of stoppage time.

By my estimation, that means Monaco need to score twice every minute to win this.

Real should just about have this in the bag.

Mbappe, who kick-started this rout with the first two goals of the night, still hasn't given up on the match ball.

The Frenchman sees a close-range effort blocked.

Valverde heads off after picking up his second assist of the night. He's replaced by Dani Meso.

There's also a change for Monaco as Lucas Michal trots on for Aleksandr Golovin.

Bellingham tries to make it 7-1 but his shot is rifled into the wrong side of the net.

There's a wry smile from Jude. He knows how close that was.

Mbappe's free-kick is blocked by the Monaco wall but the danger isn't averted as Valverde picks out Bellingham through the eye of a needle.

It's then a composed finish from Bellingham as he rounds Monaco 'keeper Philipp Kohn and passes into an empty net.

There have been two more substitutions apiece.

For Madrid, Dani Carvajal and Fran Garcia are on for Arda Guler and Eduardo Camavinga.

For Monaco, Aladji Bamba and George Ilenikhena replace Denis Zakaria and Folarin Balogun.

Monaco are still pushing to reduce the deficit.

Kassoum Ouattara is the next away player to see a shot saved by Courtois.
