BLACK CATS PURRING AFTER PREMIER LEAGUE PROMOTION
Brighton-bound Tommy Watson gave Sunderland the ideal parting gift after his stoppage-time winner earned Regis Le Bris' side promotion to the Premier League with a 2-1 comeback victory over Sheffield United.
It looked like it would be a day to forget for the Wearsiders, with Luke O'Nien forced off due to a dislocated shoulder, ahead of Tyrese Campbell's opener.
Chris Wilder's side were left to rue several missed opportunities, as Sunderland goalkeeper Antony Patterson denied Andre Brooks with his outstretched leg with the score at 1-0.
Eliezer Mayenda restored parity with a wonderful right-footed finish thanks to an equally brilliant assist by Patrick Roberts.
There was then pandemonium inside Wembley when Watson added a delightful, caressed finish into the bottom corner.
The play-off curse continues for Sheffield United, who have now failed to progress from the EFL lottery after 10 attempts.
Their 100-year wait for a win at Wembley continues, as they prepare for another season in the Championship.
