Seattle Sounders 0-2 Paris Saint-Germain result - Champions League winners ease into Club World Cup last 16

European champions Paris Saint-Germain are into the last 16 of the Club World Cup following a 2-0 win over the Seattle Sounders.

PSG were stunned by Brazilian side Botafogo on matchday two, but Luis Enrique’s team got over the line in routine fashion at Lumen Field.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s fortuitous goal put them ahead in the 35th minute - the winger deflecting in a wayward effort from Vitinha.

Seattle’s Jesus Ferreira had earlier squandered a huge chance after pouncing on Gianluigi Donnarumma’s blunder, and The Sounders might have restored parity in the second half had Obed Vargas showed more composure in the PSG box.

Instead, he failed to get a shot away and, from the resulting counter-attack, Achraf Hakimi coolly finished off a sweeping move to put the game to bed, with PSG progressing as Group B winners thanks to Atletico Madrid’s win over Botafogo in Monday’s other match.

It is over at the Rose Bowl, where despite losing 1-0 to Atletico Madrid, Botafogo have secured their passage through to the last 16.

PSG, then, top the group, with Botafogo finishing second, Atletico in third and The Sounders in fourth.

Now, we wait on the result between Atletico and Botafogo to see how the group turns out.

Either outcome could well provide us with a clash between PSG and Lionel Messi's Inter Miami in the last 16.

Ramos could well be set to leave PSG this summer, but he has an opportunity to make his mark for the final 10 minutes or so, having replaced youngster Mayulu at the tip of PSG's front line.

Two more substitutions from the Sounders – Bell and Rusnak are off, with Schmetzer probably looking to rest his starters with Seattle's Club World Cup campaign coming to a close and focus starting to shift back to their MLS season.

Minoungou and Leyva are on.

Barring a miraculous Seattle comeback, PSG are heading through, so now it is all on Atletico Madrid. If they want to stay in this competition, they need to beat Botafogo, but it remains 0-0 in that match.

PSG go from one end to the other in the blink of an eye, and it is now 2-0.

Seattle had a huge chance, as Vargas was put through on goal brilliantly, but he hesitated to get a shot off, allowing PSG's defenders to intervene. Luis Enrique's team flooded forward on a counter, led by Barcola, who squared it for Hakimi. He took a touch, set himself, and finished coolly beyond Frei.

Luis Enrique makes two alterations – goalscorer Kvaratskhelia is off, as is Neves, who just missed that big opportunity to make it 2-0. Barcola and Zaire-Emery are on in their place.

What a ball from Hakimi! He bends in a superb cross from the right wing, but Neves – who had made a late, darting run to the edge of the six-yard box – can't turn it on target.

What a chance that was for PSG to put this game to bed. Will they be made to pay?
