FERNANDES' LATE STRIKE HELPS MAN UTD EDGE TOWARDS LAST 16
Bruno Fernandes’ injury-time strike spared Manchester United’s blushes, as they squeezed to a 2-1 victory over Rangers and moved to within touching distance of the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League.
The visitors could have taken a shock lead early on when Altay Bayindir was forced into a save from Rıdvan Yılmaz’s back-post volley.
At the other end, Alejandro Garnacho looked like The Red Devils’ best attacking outlet, as he had one strike deflected over, while Matthijs de Ligt’s header home from the resulting corner was chalked off for a foul on Robin Propper.
Hamza Igamane then had another chance for the Scottish outfit, with a deflection meaning it was an awkward save for Bayindir, before, in the dying moments of the half, Jack Butland superbly kept out a Lisandro Martinez thunderbolt that was heading for the top corner.
The goalkeeper turned from hero to villain after the break though, as he inadvertently punched Christian Eriksen’s corner into his own net to hand United the lead.
He then made further saves from Garnacho and Manuel Ugarte, which could have proved crucial when Cyriel Dessers pounced on a Harry Maguire error to equalise late on.
But the drama was far from finished, with Fernandes sending Old Trafford into delirium with a sweet first-time finish from Martinez’s cross in injury time.

"SMALL MARGINS"
Alan Hutton is also part of the TNT Sports team tonight. He says: "I thought Rangers could maybe try and control the possession a little bit more. Just give them a little bit of an opportunity.
"At this level, it's small margins and I think defensively you have to be switched on 100% of the time. Unfortunately Rangers weren't.
"Jefte fell asleep a little bit at the back post unfortunately, but I think Rangers can be very proud of what they've done and achieved here tonight."

PUNDIT REACTION
Rio Ferdinand tells TNT Sports: "I'm glad it finished the way it did for Manchester United, but it wasn't without worry.
"I thought they [Rangers] handled themselves and conducted themselves really well. They come out with very much credit.
"Manchester United left it late and 'Captain Fantastic' in many ways, in terms of what he produces goal wise and creativity, stepped up and produced a moment. Very, very convincing in terms of that finish."

"YOU NEED TO WIN EVERY GAME"
Match winner Bruno Fernandes is giving his reaction to TNT Sports. "At this club, you need to win every game. If you don't win games, it's going to be difficult, there's going to be tough moments, because this is a massive club.
"I hope that our fans can never get used to losing games.
"I want them to feel that this team, even if they believe or not in the players, that this team has to win every game."

WHAT IT MEANS
United move into fourth place in the table, so a win in their final match will secure a top eight place. Even a draw could be enough, as there is a two-point gap down to ninth.
Rangers are 13th, three points off eighth.
